Meet Diana deLatour and Suzanne Szabo of Be Hot Yoga Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana deLatour and Suzanne Szabo.

Diana and Suzanne, please share your story with us.
Be Hot Yoga Atlanta has been in business for over 18 years. We were the first Bikram style hot yoga studio in Atlanta. The original owners, Jason and Cristina, created an amazing community and a very successful studio – voted Best of Atlanta in 2017!

In December 2017, we were honored to take over ownership of the studio. We have both been teaching there for several years and are so grateful to Jason and Cristina for what they have created. We have an incredible group of teachers and our goal is to create a place of health, healing, and community, a place where all are welcome.

The best part is that we are going to be able to stay in our current space at 730 Ponce de Leon Place, right on the Beltline. We have a spacious studio with great amenities including shower facilities.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The transition has been mostly smooth. We have been teaching at the studio for years, and Jason and Cristina are great friends of ours. We are very familiar with the students and the culture of the studio. We know the mechanics of the place, how to work the heat system, the software, etc..

The notable exception has been the uncertainty regarding our location. Our building was selling and we were not sure until very recently if we would be able to stay in the space. We were very worried because our space is so great, all the students love the location on the Beltline, and the heat system and shower facilities are excellent.

We spent several months looking for new spaces and although we found a couple that might work, we were very relieved when we reached an agreement with the new owner of the building to stay right where we are.

Please tell us about Be Hot Yoga Atlanta.
Hot Yoga, baby! We specialize in Bikram style hot yoga. This is a specific series of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises practiced in a hot (105 degrees), humid room. The heat is so incredibly healing and detoxifying. It allows the body to open up and become more flexible, and it creates an incredible mental relaxation as well. While we offer some variations on the series and other types of classes, this is what our specialty is.

We are so proud of our yoga family, including our wonderful teachers. We are very proud of being chosen Best of Atlanta for 2017. We are so proud of the diversity of our student body. Our classes appeal to people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. We represent a diverse, well-rounded group of people that live the benefits of this practice every day.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
When my baby brother was born, I was in the fourth grade. I was at a perfect age to really appreciate and be impacted by the new addition to the family. -Suzanne

We had horses growing up and before I was old enough to drive, my horse was my transportation as well as my friend. I would ride her to my friend’s houses, all through the woods surrounding our neighborhood, even to the drugstore! -Diana
