Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Cozette M. White.
Dr. White, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Oh, wow… my journey with numbers started some years ago while I was working at Carl’s Jr. Restaurant in Carson, California as the assistant manager at the age of 19 years old. I received my very first W-2 and asked my grandmother to help me complete my personal income tax return. Her exact words were “go get a pencil and we can sit down here and do this return together.”
From that moment on so many things have resonated from her random act of kindness. Subsequently, I took an income tax course as an elective course prior to graduating and it was in that moment that I decided that I wanted to start my own business as a Tax Preparer for extra money. Today, I operate a global financial consultancy firm providing comprehensive accounting, tax and financial management services for businesses and individuals.
The journey has been great. For years I remained a dualpreneur – working my 9 to 5 and running a side business as a successful single mom. In fact, I looked up and realized it had been 20 years of hitting the clock and then coming home to the lifestyle of an entrepreneur – phone calls, proposals, clients, and much more. Time flies. Today things are a lot different.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest obstacle I had to overcome was starting a business without a partnership agreement. I started a gift basket business with a relative and I was left with all the financial responsibility.
Always have a written, signed and notarized contract in place prior to starting a business. Read the document so you understand every aspect of what you are signing. If this requires an attorney, then invest in getting an attorney now rather than later.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a fun kid. Filled with lots of energy. According to my 3rd and 4th-grade teachers, I wasn’t the talkative kids. I was the kid that consistently got great grades when it came to mathematics and I was well liked by my peers. As I grew older everything the grade school teachers said about me was true. I was involved in several leadership organizations.
If you caught me watching television growing up, you were more likely to catch me watching as I was getting ready for school. In which case my favorite cartoon shows are The Flintstones and The Jetsons. In the evening after playing kickball, jump rope, or hide-and-seek with the kids on my street, you’d catch my siblings and me watching sitcoms such as Sanford and Son, The Jefferson’s, and Good Times before catching the latest video songs on B.E.T and MTV Music.
