Meet Dr. M.E. Porter of Scatter Brained Genius Coaching and Consulting and SBG Media Group in Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. M.E. Porter.

Dr. Porter, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My business started as a Facebook page, literally, I created a page to accommodate a school assignment that I had in 2005. Not only did it begin as a Facebook page but it began as ministry, not for profit. I recall launching the page “Motivationally ME”, the ME being representative of my initials, Marilyn Elizabeth and my assignment was to motivate people. I was not social media savvy in anyway, in fact, I barely knew what Facebook was! I launched the page on a Friday evening and when I woke on Saturday morning, I had over 3500 fans! I went to sleep on Saturday and woke on Sunday to more than 8,000 followers! I received so much attention from that page that other well known coaches and consultant in the Atlanta area started to reach out to me to find out what my secret sauce was. The truth is I did not know – I know now but back then, I had no idea. I did however take them up on all of the free lunch meetings to pick my brain!

After about 2 months, I decided to begin doing a weekly motivational call – which lasted for 3 years and this call was the catalyst to me becoming a spiritual life coach. In the interim, I wrote my first book and because people were paying such close attention to my movements, they began to ask me to publish their books. My business grew organically, a very natural flow from one stage to the next. As I became known as The Soul Shifter in the coaching world, I began helping my clients launch their own successful businesses, which placed in the business consulting arena.

I have ultimately changed my company name from ME Unlimited to Scatter Brained Genius Coaching and Consulting and SBG Media Group (from Soulidified Publishing). SBG is now a thriving business entity where I am both as a business consultant and personal development coach and SBG Media group successfully published about 8 Amazon bestsellers each year and most recently, will launch Preaching in Pink Magazine in March 2018.

My goals for 2018 includes taking the personal development arm of SBG to the Atlanta celebrity community – because I am certain that I can be instrumental in helping some women truly get their lives together! The publishing arm is targeted to launch a NY bestseller over the next 18 months. The Pink Pulpit Crusade International is ministry that remains from what began as a motivational Facebook page. PP is a global outreach ministry with a mission to spread love and equip women with proper ministry etiquette and sound biblical knowledge.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I have had many of the same struggles as other entrepreneurs, more directly faithpreneurs. Lack of support, lack of funding and massive discouragement. I have been late on the rent a few times over the years and have had those close to me encourage me to quit! I have had to prove myself often especially during the years when I did not have any of my degrees. All of skills were self taught and those who has years of visibility and large communities would mock me as someone with no real receipts. Today, many of those same people come to me for spiritual guidance and business advice.

Please tell us about Scatter Brained Genius Coaching and Consulting and SBG Media Group.
I am most widely known and respected as a personal development coach, speaker and author/publisher with a knack for business and marketing. I help my clients and audiences succeed at life and business through strategic personal development. Many come to me for business and publishing only to realize after one conversation that they are undone and truly need me as a coach before business and books come into play. I am most known for telling the truth that helps people get their minds right! My clients often say that I am the only person that has ever given them the mirror for them to look in and see themselves. I am a a truth extractor and this is truly what positions my clients for success.

I am most proud of my ability to keep my faith at the forefront of my business. I do not compromise my beliefs for pay! I believe the thing that sets me apart from others in my field is that I am not afraid to be real in every arena, I show as M.E. Porter no matter what that the outcome is going to be. I am the woman that is going to say the thing that everyone else in the room is thinking but is either to afraid to say or do not care enough to say. I am Iyanla Vanzant on steroids!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have learned the power of social media instead of fumbling my way through. I would have gotten and understanding of how to serve others without depleting myself. I would hire a coach to teach me how to price my products and services – I know that I have given 1000’s of dollars of ideas and strategies away for free while I was yet starving. I just would have studied how to run a business from the ground up, instead of depending on prayers only to get me through. I needed prayer but I’m sure I could have used some strategy as well! And lastly, I would build a solid community of followers vs. likes and shares on social media, because they do not translate to dollars always.
