Today we’d like to introduce you to E.M. Watson.
E.M., please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey as an artist really launched after I experienced a difficult divorce. Losing my marriage and being separated from my children made me re-think who I was and it caused me to redefine myself. I went down a path that consisted of anger, confusion, sorrow and I decided to use music and dance as a platform to express myself. At the time I was working part-time for an entertainment company called Espeuté Productions. They gave me an opportunity to work as a DJ, emcee, dancer and film music composer while simultaneously launching my career with a rock band in Athens, Georgia called “Playground Hero”. Things seemed good at the time but I couldn’t shake the pain and heartache from the divorce. I eventually turned to alcohol and the party scene to help numb my pain which only led me deeper into a depression. I would drink so much that I would constantly hallucinate, weep and even lay in my vomit. Overtime, I eventually got offered a full-time position at Espeuté Productions and was asked to relocate to Gwinnett County. I immediately left Athens, Georgia and pursued entertainment fulltime with Espeuté Productions as my foundation. Though I improved with drinking less, my depression increased and it became the norm for me. I made a decision to re-pursue the live music scene and become a solo act with aspirations to once again fight my depression with music. After many failed relationships, dark music, and pretty consistent drinking habits, I started to notice my health changing. My weight decreased, my body ached tremendously, my hallucinations and dreams worsened and I began to become very sickly. I eventually found myself in life threatening condition and my friends and family were pleading for me to go to the hospital. After having a near death experience, I eventually was taken to the hospital. After doing a thorough analysis of my symptoms, they informed me of an illness that I had and informed my mother and I that I may not survive the condition due to how long I had waited for treatment. With a tearful eye, and a defeated spirit, my mom and I decided that we were going to fight the illness. Though it was the toughest few weeks of my life we fought as hard as we could in that hospital and I survived. Surviving that situation changed my life and inspired me to be the best human I could be. I trained my body, focused hard, reduced drinking to a bare minimum and re-pursued my solo career in music. With the help of Espeuté Productions and my amazing manager Justin Daniel, I took what I experienced from the divorce all the way up until my hospital scene and created a metaphorical film about my life. The film is called “EMerge” and it has won multiple awards and is still winning awards! My music business has taken off as well and I will be hitting the stage soon with new songs from my EP called “White Castle”. I could not ask for a better life and I no longer experience depression or hallucinations.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I fought depression, lack of financial security, rejection from old friends and new friends, separation from my children, a threatening illness and even loss of loved ones. It was just super tough but it turned me into a person with little fears.
