Meet Erika Maxie of Barre B in South Fulton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Maxie.

Barre B is a boutique fitness studio located in the South Fulton area of Atlanta, affectionately known as #SOFU. It is the brainchild of Sherry Darby and Erika Maxie, two South Fulton residents who first met through a shared passion for early childhood education. Sherry, owner of Kumon of Atlanta- Sandtown in South Fulton for over 10 years, recognized that there was a disparity in the area of exercise and health in South Fulton especially as pertains to the kinds of an upscale boutique, neighborhood services that one might find in Buckhead or Vinings. She set out immediately to address this need reaching out to her friend Erika Maxie, an NASM certified personal trainer with a background in boutique fitness operations who had also developed her own brand of CORE Fitness mobile services, and asked her to consider a partnership. “In Erika, I knew that I’d be working with someone that has experience and a unique passion for fitness and for this community. I know that together, we’ve created something special.”

The Barre B fitness concept is based upon an exercise technique of low impact, ballet-inspired movements designed to lift, tone and tighten target areas of the body increasing strength and flexibility. Barre exercise as a trend began in the U.S. several years ago and has steadily gained in popularity. Barre B integrates the philosophy and foundational concepts of barre combined with Pilates and other high energy elements to help create a lifestyle of fitness. “In following the fitness industry over the years,” said Erika, I have seen a growing demand for differentiated neighborhood services in an intimate upscale setting that benefits the whole person, mind & body, that brings down the busy of our busy lives as opposed to the big box, commercial gyms where you simply get a workout. No matter what your current fitness level is today Barre B can work for you. Services offered include Yoga, Core Fitness, Cardio Concepts and Personal Training along with the signature Barre B classes. Classes are open level, no experience is required. Ultimately, because barre is low-impact, most anyone can do it. Complete with online check-in, a towel bar, and lockers, there are several different packages and memberships to choose from.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Any venture has its share of obstacles, we are no exception. As the first barre boutique fitness studio in the South Fulton area in Atlanta, the most significant challenge we’ve set to overcome deals with educating our community about the benefits of barre as many have yet to experience it. Barre has been in the US since the 70’s and has gained widespread popularity in recent years with the growth of boutique fitness studios. We believe in convenient access to quality exercise and have set our sights on taking on this charge as an opportunity to share the benefits of consistently connecting with local studios.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Barre B – what should we know?
Our studio opened in March 2016 with specializations in barre, yoga, core, and cardio classes. We are most known for our personalized service and small class sizes with high-energy instructors. All of our classes are integrated to offer our members a diverse, yet complimentary experience. We also infuse Pilates and yoga in all of our classes.

We are most proud of the opportunity to connect our community in exercise. It’s also very important that we know the names and backgrounds of our members. We love our members!

What sets us apart is that we certify our barre instructors using the Barre Intensity technique. Additionally, we offer all guests and members complimentary water, towel bar, and locker area. All one needs to do to participate is show up!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Knowing our members by name and truly caring for their well-being is at the top of our list, To be in this business, you have to love what you do. Authenticity is the cornerstone of our success- make others feel better than when they came. That spirit emanates from the inside out.
