Today we’d like to introduce you to Gilbert and Renée Beavers.
Gil and Renée, are originally from Detroit, Michigan. Their Relationship started by Renée”s simple act of rolling her pencil off her desk and Gil picking it up. They never knew such a small action would create a 37 year legacy of love. Gil and Renée were only 21 when they happily committed to until death will we part. Gil is retired from the Air Force, and Renée is a former salon owner who has been an entrepreneur and now an author for over 30 years. They have lived in over 13 cities throughout the United States and Germany. They are proud parents to an amazing and talented daughter, Aharon (pronounced like Sharon, except with an A). They also adopted Renée’s little sisters (Carmen and Monique) after a family tragedy. Today they each have loving families of their own.
This couple has helped many other couples establish a new habit of love to strengthen their marriage relationship through their tested relationship tools and principles and as marriage facilitators through the Prepare and Enrich Marriage program. Their mission is to empower couples to get free of the pain from the past, and unforgiveness. Many couples are held hostage by resentment, shame, and uncommunicated expectations. Together, we can live lives filled will love and healthy relationships by breaking the silence. Empowering couples with the application of biblical principles to build, repair, and restore healthy, Rich Relationships is Gil & Renée’s passion.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Gil & Renée’s desire to help couples work on their marriage in many cases has been more significant than the resources needed to fund their project. This couple believes when you want something to change, you should make the initial investment, and that’s what they have done. Building a podcast from idea to fruition has been challenging; however, it is one of the most rewarding experiences they have shared as a couple. Counseling, therapy, and premarital counseling is not very sought after in many minority communities. Gil and Renée have found there is a stigma attached to asking for outside help in many of our communities. After 15 years of serving couple breaking the silence is the key to empowering couples not to break their marriage vows.
Please tell us about Rich Relationships Podcast.
Rich Relationship is a podcast, a Mobile App (Speak Freely with Gil&Renée). In October 2020, the Rich Relationships project will launch an anthology written by Gil & Renée, 16 couple, and two subject experts. Many marriages and families end in separation or divorce due to poor planning. A lack of support and being ill-equipped. The Rich Relationships project is more than a book, a Podcast, and an app. It’s a community, a safe place where couples can go for support, gain new tools, and to have healthy accountability.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Renée shares that her favorite memory was when she met her husband at 14 years old at a summer job in Detroit. It was love at first sight. Gil was a gentleman from the beginning. Renée rolled her pencil off the desk to get his attention (Yes, it was intentional). Gil picked it up and responded by saying hello. Renée explained to him that she wanted to say hello, but wasn’t sure if he would be interested in her. Gil answered that I always say Hi to lovely ladies, which was the beginning of their 37-year love story.
