Today we’d like to introduce you to Horace Glasper.
Horace, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, I first started doing stand up comedy in Chicago, Illinois. I was 15 at the time and labeled a high school dropout. During this time, I read lots of books but one, in particular, changed my life “Pryor Convictions and other life sentences” by Richard Pryor. After I read that book, I was fully aware to who I was and what I was an entertainer. So I started my journey performing in small places and comedy clubs in the city Giovanni’s Pizzeria, Riddles Comedy Club. And from there, I met a young talent Like myself by the name of Brandon T Jackson.
He was filming in the city a film called “Roll Bounce.” He told me he was putting together a Teens Of Comedy Tour of young talent and he wanted to put me in the mix. So after traveling to Los Angeles ca I linked back up with Brandon. And also the likes of Isiah Kelly and lil JJ who were on the tour as well. In that same time, I got my first movie and met my future mentor. The film was called ‘Cuttin tha Mustard’ Directed by Reed Mccants! Soon after that, I got on Television on the hit Nickelodeon show “Just Jordan” but these times weren’t always easy for me either. I fell on hard times and was homeless. But through it all, I pushed through. After spending three years in LA, I moved to the east coast and stayed there for close to 10 years. During this time, I learned how to screen-write, improv, and taking drama classes at the historic “Negro Ensemble Theatre Company.” And I even stared in my own web series. So through it all, God has been good to me.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Honestly, having to deal with people comparing my career to others. Like hey don’t you know this person that person can’t they just put you on? People don’t understand your journey and your struggles are your own! It’s not for others to compare your greatness or light to someone else. God blessed you with a gift that’s unique and special it’s like a Super Power only you possess it no one else! So you must believe in your dream with all your heart and soul! Never surrender. Never give up keep pushing yourself!
We’d love to hear more about your work.
