Meet Ivory Palmgren of Kakes and Kocktails in Gwinnett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivory Palmgren.

Ivory, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, baking has been a passion of mine since forever and it was a secret of mine too (lol). I watched my grandmother bake a lot of things when I was younger and even though her and I weren’t that close, I watched how much she loved baking and how much love she put into her pastries.

And it wasn’t until I started actually baking that I knew what that felt like. I love it and it’s also my place of zen (if that makes any sense). You know sometimes while I’m baking I forget that I have twin toddlers running around (lol). What kickstarted my journey was back in 2012 when I baked 200 cupcakes for an event at my church and I got great reviews from everyone.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Even though I got those great reviews, I doubted myself. Self-doubt can really affect your success. I was always telling myself it wasn’t going to work, everybody is doing it already, I’m not financially able, etc. and I stopped myself from pushing forward. But what actually gut checked me was a meme (can you believe it lol).

There was meme that said “When you feel discouraged about your business idea because there are so many people around you doing the same thing. Go to the grocery store and look down the bread aisle, same idea, 15+ companies selling the same thing! We all can eat. Don’t doubt your ability, Just make sure you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing!” And that clicked to me, and from that moment I started to push forward and believing in me!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Kakes and Kocktails is a company that caters to your indulgence of infused cakes, kocktails and/or mocktails (for you non-drinkers) lol. K&K Brings Class, Elegance, and Fun to your private and/or corporate events with delicious treats and drinks. I believe what sets us apart is the passion and love that goes into making our delectable treats and the way they are matched to perfect drink. As a new company, I’m most proud and happy about the future for Kakes and Kocktails.

The proudest moment for me honestly, was getting started, It was making my idea a reality. I’m so proud of myself cause I doubted me for years and now I’m happy that my company is up and running and I look forward to the many great accomplishments to come. I’m also proud of the work that I’ve put into completing my first children book following my twin girls on their baking journey and not only does everyone gets to follow them on their journey but everyone will also get a chance to bake all the things that they do in the book and books to come.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a social butterfly, I was on the Dance and Step Team in high school. I was a church girl, my aunt (rest in peace) had us in church almost seven days a week, that’s how I met my husband (LOL). At a younger age I was bit of tomboy, I loved playing kickball, handball, climbing fences, doing all the things a little girl should’ve left to the boys (LOL).
