Meet Jacqueline B Schaffer of The Sonshine Enterprise in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline B Schaffer.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jacqueline B. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Throughout my life I’ve always known my purpose was to help others. I originally took that purpose and chased the idea of becoming an attorney. I would be able help people return to their families and get their lives back on track. But, I changed my mind before I graduated college. Things were different, I had a son and I did not think taking on a new mountain of debt would be the right thing to do, right after college. I instead took the first job that offered me a position and enrolled in paralegal school. I figured this would be my new path to success. To slowly develop a career in the legal industry and then return to law school when I was ready.

But, God had different plans for me. My first paralegal job was non-traditional and I hated it, I also began to hate corporate America. So, I started my own company with the intent of just creating a second stream of income. I combined my paralegal, organization and managerial skills and developed a consulting company for small businesses. After, developing my company for six months it still wasn’t where I desired it to be. I began to face obstacles in my corporate job and I knew I needed to leave for my own sanity. I took the leap and jumped headfirst into entrepreneurship.

It has been an awesome learning and developmental experience thus far. I love helping people follow their dreams. Sometimes my clients just need a little push and clarity to take off into success. I have other clients that sign annual contracts for us to work together as we develop their business and their customer base. Every day I do something new and important, I feel as if I’m now living my purpose.

The Sonshine Enterprise is my primary business venture currently but I have launched two new companies in the past six months. My mentor group TNT (Transition and Takeoff) is now officially a non-profit. Two years ago, I started tutoring and mentoring a small group of boys and we have decided to keep it going. We are currently raising funds to prepare the mentees for their fall semester, they are all headed off to college. But, we will also be launching a new group for teen girls in August so look out for those announcements. Our goal with TNT is to assist teens with their social, academic and personal transition so that they can takeoff into adulthood successfully.

My third company is an online store called This site is dedicated to moms and millennials who are on a budget. We feature a kids/teen collection, office needs, mommy & me fashion and more! I’m always looking for the next endeavor to allow people to live easier and save more!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road, it’s been quite bumpy. My biggest struggle to overcome was the financial instability that comes with entrepreneurship. I originally wanted to bootstrap my way through at least the first year or two of entrepreneurship. That way I would be able to save money and have an emergency fund for slow days or months. I was actively working on developing a stash of emergency funds, but then I discovered that I needed to immediately quit my job. I’ve always had strong faith though and I knew if I made the jump, I would survive to the other side. There are new obstacles that present themselves daily but the biggest boulder was figuring out how to obtain consistent income.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Sonshine Enterprise – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Sonshine Enterprise Consulting is a one stop shop for small businesses who are starting up or growing. What I do is work with small companies to determine their needs, cut their unnecessary spending and help them plan their future. The services are customized to fit the customer’s needs, goals and budget. I offer services in five areas of need for entrepreneurs; Efficiency, Legal Documents, Finances, Growth and Marketing.

I’m known for my service, I always try to go above and beyond to make my clients happy. I know that there is a ton of blood, sweat and tears involved with starting a company and its important to have high quality individuals on your team. If I can serve as a power player on a company’s team temporarily, I know that the company is serious about their goals. I’m a passionate person and I desire for my clients to be passionate about their craft so that we can really launch their company forward.

I’m most proud of my constant ability to learn, grow and be flexible. Clients give me new tasks and projects in subject areas that I know nothing about, but I love a challenge. I research and assess the situation to confirm that I am competent enough to complete the task, if I determine that I am not a good fit, I work just as hard to find someone who is. My clients brag about how easy it is to work with me and how fast I complete my work. Which I love to hear because I value good customer service so much.

What sets me apart from most other consultants is that I do not live in a box. I do not just write contracts, or just create efficiency strategies, or just develop marketing graphics and plans. I do whatever needs to be done in order for my client to reach their personal and business goals. My flexibility and wide variety of services proves to be useful for my clients. They don’t have to hire three different people, they don’t have to do the research, they just need to give me a call. I always offer free consultations to new clients, to confirm that we are even a good fit for each other. It’s not just about making money for me, I put my clients first and they know that they are my priority.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
This year I am focused on developing some foundational pieces of my company. I will be exerting more energy into my blog,, which is a platform I use to share financial and business tips. I get tons of questions and I would like to share the answers with everyone, there’s nothing better than free information! I’ll also be really focused on my non-profit Transition aNd Takeoff (TNT), we just filed for 501(3) c status and there’s a ton of work to do as we establish consistent funding.

In the next 3-5 years, I will be expanding The Sonshine Enterprise to really become an enterprise. I will hire a larger team and will bring on nothing but experts. The goal would be to provide the highest level of professionalism and ROI. I plan on keeping things the same in many capacities, never losing the personal touch that I love about SEC. I will continue to offer flat-rate pricing for projects when possible, instead of the billable hour pricing that most consultants offer. Of course, there are some other things coming soon, but you guys will have to tune in to my social media for updates.
