Meet Jairus Ellis of Jay The Vision in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jairus Ellis.

Jairus, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It really started back in high school, whenever my friends and I would have downtime from school and sports. We just made short skits for the fun of it, we would upload them to YouTube to show our friends and family. It was from then I started to develop a real passion for filming making and just content creation in general. After graduating high school, I made the decision to take it further and study Filmmaking and TV Production in College.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Far from it actually, from losing friends and family, to almost not graduating, and being damn near being homeless; it has definitely has been quite the ride. One major defeat I took was when my hard drive crashed while I was working on multiple projects, just a few months before my college graduation. I had lost everything I had been working on for the past two years prior as well as the current projects I was working on then, I was crushed. I wanted to give up right then and there, but I am a strong believer of everything happens for a reason; so I just took it as a lesson learned and came back stronger.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
My company is called “Jay The Vision” and I specialize in freelance Videography and Photography work. The thing I would say I am most proud about so far, are the people whom I’ve made a connection with and was able to work and grow together in the industry. I feel like a thing that sets me apart from others, is the fact I am willing to go the extra mile for a project and push boundaries when it comes to overall “vision” of a project, thus hint the name.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me success is defined by legacy, what are leaving behind that may help change an entire generation for the better? We all must leave this earth someday, so what you leave behind will be what you’re remembered for. I want to be one of the best filmmakers there ever was, tell stories that help shape generations as well as allowing more opportunity for my people to grow.
