Meet Janelle Lamar of Beyond The I Do

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Lamar.

Janelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always enjoyed planning events and managing projects. I’m that go-to gal for weddings and events for my friends and family. After spending years in corporate America and supporting my husband with his dreams by starting a non-profit, I longed for more time with my family. Working for someone else was not my long-term plan, but I always seemed to find an excuse to not start my own company. Finally, I found the space and the courage to begin my entrepreneurial journey. My special niche not only infuses the wedding planning process with proven marriage resources, but it continues to inform and strengthen my own marriage.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest difficulty is marketing. I’d rather focus on weddings/events and marriage-related resource – not learning the best SEO techniques or the newest hack to the Instagram algorithm. Trying finding a marketing solution that can expand my brand and cultivate fresh leads is a huge hurdle. I have confidence that I could figure it out if I worked at it, but I’d rather pay an expert.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beyond The I Do – what should we know?
We are wedding planners and marriage advocates! We specialize in marriage-focused wedding planning services. We infuse marriage related resources and education throughout the planning process. I am the founder and lead planner. As a certified event planner and interior designer with years of experience, I walk with my clients to bring to life their beautiful vision of their wedding day. But at the end of it all, what’s most important is their MARRIAGE!

I’ve been married for over 17 years and been a premarital mentor for over 11 – so I share with my clients the experience, education, and training I’ve acquired over the years.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
When I ask those closest to me, I am described as highly organized, efficient, and a classic Enneagram type six.

Sixes are loyalists. We are committed, reliable, hard-working, trustworthy, excellent “troubleshooters”, and foster cooperation.

I also have playful, creative, and artistic sides. When I hear a bride’s visions, I get to express these attributes, thereby turning her dream into a beautiful reality.
