Meet Janice Brantle of Poetry In Motion II in Snellville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Brantle.

Janice, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started writing journals years ago because I felt that no one was listening to me. When you grow up in a home with eight children, you tend to get lost in the shuffle. Not to mention, my father was a strict disciplinarian. He believed that children should only speak when spoken too and didn’t have any rights.

I then married my father, no not in the literal sense but figuratively speaking. My husband felt that I wasn’t smart enough, mature enough, or whatever enough to speak and handle issues intelligently. My voice was stifled again.

I attempted my first book with a friend of mine, at least I thought she was a friend. The book was titled “Confessions of Two Bitter Ex-wives.” Yes, I know! She was going through a divorce, and I had gone through one, and so we came up with this book idea. She was an experienced writer. I was a novice. I looked to her for guidance. I admired her.

The book was coming along. I was learning how to write and was looking forward to learning more about the publishing process. I kind of romanticized the process. You know, I’m this budding new author, writing this great new book – you get the picture.

But then things changed. I remember this distinctly, I received a call from a mutual friend of ours. He asked me if I spoke with my writing partner today. I said no. He proceeded to tell me that she was bad-mouthing our book project and that she wasn’t going to be taking part in writing such trash! Whoa, I had no clue as to how and why all of this hatred came about.

I never confronted her. You see, my voice being stifled affected my self-esteem as well. We just slowly drifted apart. But one thing about me is I never give up. I never back down. I move forward. That’s what I did with the book. What came out of it was a beautiful book called “From the Brink of Insanity Comes the Light.” I wove my story of heartaches and pain into a fictional piece of art that still helps women face the pain they’ve gone through in their relationships, helping them deal with it and get help!

I’ve since written three novels, one poetry book and a how-to e-book. I’m working on my 4th an 5th novels. I choose to self-publish instead of traditional publishing because I want my voice heard. I want my words unfiltered. I don’t want my words changed or altered so much so that you don’t even know it’s me.

Now, I’ve been building my business to help authors, writers, bloggers and speakers who are struggling with getting their written words out, who are having problems with how to publish their work and what’s the best process to get their work ready for publishing by offering coaching on the entire publishing process so they can become a visible published author in alignment with their brand and marketing to share with their own clients. My services are unique because I take my client’s written words from start to finish- a step by step process, including finishing their body of work, branding, and publishing.

My pledge to my wonderful soulmate clients is to be with them every step of the way. For many people, getting their stories from their heads to the paper then to their audience can be scary, but they can take my hand and I will guide them through the process and I promise not to let get until their work is out into the world.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, how I wish it were a smooth road. When I started, I had no one to help me. I was on my own. I’ve made so many mistakes along the way. After I finally finished my first novel, I didn’t know what company to use to self-publish my books. I heard about lulu.com, and that’s what I went with. I had a website created, and then the person who created it disappeared. I had to find someone else to help me with any glitches that occurred. The site got hacked and then crashed. I had to start all over. I had to try several marketing techniques. None of which worked for me. I traveled to different book festivals, all of which I paid more for the booth and marketing than the sales I made.

However, I believe my biggest obstacle was myself. I didn’t think I was good. I didn’t believe that I was enough. Finally, I got a business coach, and that has made all of the difference. I followed the Abiola Abrams of https://womanifesting.com/. I had to do a radical shake-up. I went all the way to Paris to the Goddess of Paris Manifest your Destiny retreat hosted by Abiola Abrams. That changed my life. It changed my mindset, and when I got back, she became my business coach. I now know that I have the power to create, the ability to motivate, and the power to live my best life. Because of it, I am more willing than before to help others do the same thing.

Please tell us about your work.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My 6th year birthday. That was my very first birthday party. It seemed like every kid in the neighborhood was there. We had to have 3 cakes! I’m sure that they were there to eat cake play games but I still felt very special.
