Meet Jenn Hyman of Mirrored Images Boudoir in Gainesville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Hyman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been photographing beautiful people since 2008. My dad owned an old school photo lab when I was growing up and photography always interested me. I started as a wedding and portrait photographer in Greenville, SC. I had a bride ask me to shoot her boudoir, although I had never done a boudoir session before. I did the shoot and fell in love with boudoir and how it made her feel about herself. The reaction her hubby had was the icing on top of the cake! Over the years, I’ve shot many boudoir sessions and finally in 2017 I decided to remove the other services and focus on only boudoir photography. I opened my first studio in Gainesville, Georgia — and it was the best business decision I’ve ever made. Each boudoir session inspires me all over again and confirms my belief that I am helping women every day. I really am blessed to be able to show women how powerful and beautiful they truly are.

Building the confidence of every woman that comes into my studio is my passion. I provide women with a total self-love experience and the transformation from the initial email inquiry to the delivery of the product is amazing. Women of every age, shape, and size benefit from this experience and it’s one they will never forget. Without the trust of my clients I would not be able to do this. It’s such an intimate session, their support and trust in my ability to give them exactly what they need is a constant motivator for me to continue.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Boudoir photography hasn’t always been “accepted” or easy to promote. Years ago, I remember being at a bridal show and getting looks from people! Even now, promotion and running ads is difficult because many of my images are rejected for being too suggestive. Prior to having a studio my BIGGEST struggle was NOT having a studio — I had to offer my home, suggest we use their home, or rent a hotel or venue for my shoots. Now I have the space with multiple sets and can offer something to everyone in one location!

I continue to work full time as a RN and I have a family to take care of. The support from my fella for me to follow a dream is what pushed me to get a studio. I spend endless hours doing my own marketing, creating promotional material, maintaining my web site, editing sessions, networking, and brainstorming for new unique ideas to incorporate into the business. I think it’s safe to say without him, I wouldn’t be able to do so much.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in helping women love and accept who they are. I urge women not to wait until they “drop 10 lbs.” or start a new diet. Every woman is powerful and beautiful, just as they are today.

Women are resilient beings and warriors; we sacrifice our bodies to create life and many of us don’t bounce back to pre-pregnancy form. We can’t continue to look at the models on TV and wish we could look like them. My boudoir sessions are a total supermodel experience to help build confidence, which doesn’t just last for the few hours they’re in the studio. This experience truly stays with my clients. I get messages and phone calls regularly where a previous client was having a bad self-love day and they looked at their images from their session and immediately relive the experience and it transforms their day! I am overwhelmed by all the lives I’ve touched.

I have an entire wardrobe from size small to XXXL, I provide my clients with expert styling and assistance with picking their own outfits, I have an incredible make up artist that gives every gal the supermodel, high-end magazine, centerfold look. Women are AMAZED at their images, most can’t believe it’s them! I show clients their pictures throughout the shoot, unedited, straight out of my camera and it gives them a thrill money can’t buy. I provide every client with a welcome guide on what to expect, how to prepare and much more. I know and understand the female body, how to pose it, and what lighting and angles to use for each woman. I don’t nip or tuck my clients, I use my years of experience to create images of my clients that are true to who they are.

Every client comes in nervous but leaves feeling amazing. I pose my clients by giving detailed instructions that are clear and easy to follow, many of the poses I show my client how to do by doing it myself. No one that comes into my studio is a model, boudoir photography isn’t for models. Boudoir is for women who want to feel beautiful, want to be wanted and needed.

What were you like growing up?
As a kid, I was a tom boy! Can you believe it? I never wore high heels until I was in my 20’s. I grew up in a family of boys and I was embarrassed to embrace my girlie side. I worked as a paramedic for about 10 years and now I am a full time RN in an emergency department. Photography has always been a way for me to decompress and enjoy life, boudoir photography allows me the opportunity to bring happiness and excitement to my clients which isn’t something I get to do often in my full-time job.

I love being outside. I enjoy hiking, horseback riding and traveling. My favorite trip was to Belize and I can’t wait to go back!

When I was younger, I was involved in dance and gymnastics and my dream was to be a vet. I love animals and over the years I’ve been an advocate for rescues, fostering dogs, and including my services in auctions to raise money for them. The cause I am currently working on is for October, for breast cancer awareness. Myself and a group of other artists are coming together to provide breast cancer survivors with a photoshoot and I am SO excited to make this happen! My mother is a survivor and this has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
