Meet Joe Nedza

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Nedza.

Joe, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started my company four years ago in Athens as a pop-up. We started with bubble waffles and ice cream. Since then, we have moved into doughnuts and biscuits! We make everything from scratch and by hand. Since the virus hit, we began delivering doughnuts and ice cream all over Georgia. One big goal we have is to get more orders for delivery in Atlanta.

All of our doughnuts are vegan based and we also serve gluten-friendly doughnuts. I want people to have the best product possible and to be loved well. That is what we strive for at Nedza’s. I believe our doughnuts and ice cream are the best around. I also believe that our customer service is unique and loving. We write personal handwritten love letters to every customer we serve. We are opening a restaurant in the next two to three months in Athens to better serve our community.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not even close. I had no real culinary training. I had to learn everything on my own. I started Nedza’s at just $200 and grew it. Its been super difficult and rewarding. I’ve driven across the country twice to raise money for Nedza’s. I’ve spoken to over 600 people about investing over the course of four years and only two said yes. SO many deals fell through. Its been a beautiful journey but the one thing that has remained the same is the love for people. Nedza’s will always be customer-focused and customer-driven. We love loving people through food and that is what helps us stay the course.

Please tell us about the company.
We want people to feel loved. Every customer gets a handwritten love letter. I can’t control how people are treated when they’re not around me, but I can control how we treat them. I want every person who comes to Nedza’s to walk away, feeling loved. I’ve always felt a connection to people over meals. I am also extremely passionate about handmade food. We will never buy products we can make in our store. Even if it saves us money, I feel like the customer deserves the best food possible. If I make the food, I can control the outcome. This allows me to only make what I love and the hope is that each person who comes to Nedza’s can experience my love for what we do. I want people to feel completely loved through everything we do and I believe this sets us apart.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The people around us and the people who support us make all of this possible. Not taking short cuts and doing whatever it takes to get the job done.
