Meet Johnny Graham of Hangry App in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Graham.

Johnny, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a good work ethic even from a young age. I’ve done everything from sign spinning to working at a detail shop. Eventually, I landed a job with a company that was just getting started helping Amazon build out their facilities. At this time I developed a hunger for business and technology. I watched and helped turn a small business with just 11 employees to a company with hundreds of employees. I worked there for nearly six years and had a blast doing so. But eventually, like most good things it had to come to an end. I found myself unhappy and feeling restrained. During this time I realized, I couldn’t sit by and wait for others to see my value. So while I was visiting my mom one holiday, I started a web services company called Compass Solutions. Originally I had planned to only build websites.

Then one cold day in southern Illinois leaving an Amazon facility, bickering with a childhood friend/coworker about where we were having lunch that day, I had an idea. Later that night I went back to my hotel room and started researching everything possible about mobile development. I sketched up some of the worst designs possible on a couple of complimentary notepads from the hotel. The very same day that I finished Hangry App UI/UX I had a meeting with the HR representative of the company I was working for at the time. I had no backup plan walking in, just a user interface for a mobile app I had no idea how to make. Needless say I realized I’d had enough and decided it was time for me to part ways for the next chapter in my life, Hangry App.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Controlled chaos is the only way to describe it. One second all is well, then somehow I’ll manage to break something and seems like the end of the world. Learning to walk away and take a break before getting flustered is one of the hardest things I’ve tried to learn. Often times I’ll sit in front of my monitors for hours pounding away before giving up. I’ve learned that I have to manage my time better and sometimes my best work happens when I take a break and come back refreshed and refocused.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hangry App – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
On July 11th, 2018 Compass Solutions released its first public ios app. Hangry App is your food referee focused on helping our users get the best results for their food cravings. Hangry App lets users select filters for individual preferences, spin a wheel, then a place will be selected for them. Hangry App offers great marketing solutions for restaurant owners no matter their size or budget. We are constantly working on updates to improve the experience for users and restaurant owners.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
A lot of changes are coming for Hangry App in 2020 including launching a version for Android users early in the year. We are looking to expand the team and I am extremely optimistic and excited for the things to come.
