Meet Joseph Ifebi of KJ Attires

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Ifebi.

Hi Joseph, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I landed here in America back in 1996. Prior to coming to America back home, I was heavily influenced by my mother, whom was a fashion designer and my father whom was an international businessman. Fast forward to 2017, I started KJ Attires after realizing there was a market for providing our native African attires to many of my friends and peers whom could not get their hands on African apparel so easily due to not knowing any tailors. After my first 1yr and a half in the business, I started looking at how to scale and grow my business and taking into account many of the challenges I faced, one day while in the gym it hit me that why not mix the african wear and same great quality activewear that is currently in the market to create something unlike any other. So we pivoted and changed direction and never looked back since, and that is how we became what is known today as KJ Attires!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely been a rough but great journey to say the least. One of the major struggles all small businesses have in common is finances, You have a great idea and a goal, but you do not have the capital to help bring your vision to life. From the start to today, everything we have done has been done from in-house, I own my business 100% no debts or investors on board. Other struggles we went through were finding the right manufacturers to work with without getting scammed, which I have also experienced, there are many struggles we faced, but these are the two major ones just to name a few, but we thank god for seeing us through.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
KJ Attires Specializes in providing African-themed athletic apparel to the world. We continuously strive to bring some great vibrant designs to the world. When you look at other activewear companies, including the major companies of the world, they all make great products, we too also make great products, but what sets us apart from them is our designs that come from Africa. Our motto is to always Stay true to the culture, which is a saying that we incorporate into anything we are doing or creating we do it with the culture in mind. I am most proud of the Designs me and my team put together and of course our current supporters and the ones that will join the movement very soon, when this was created it was created to enhance the afro community and to put one of us in that space and now that we are here it’s only up from here!

What matters most to you? Why?
I am a pro-black individual. So watching certain brands or companies disrespect the afro community with ads they put out or say things like our brand wasn’t meant for the black community grinds my gears, I really take things like that to heart, Black lives matters means a lot to me, as well as giving back to homeless people and children here and also back home in Africa means alot to me which is why I give back every opportunity I get through The Motherland Project initiative, and you can learn more about that on our website (
