Meet Joshua Dingle of LoveArts in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Dingle.

Joshua, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
A pretty traumatic childhood triggered a speech impediment that left me unable to communicate clearly with my peers and family. After multiple attempts to cure by stuttering through speech therapy, nothing worked. I would stay home, listen to stories and fell in love with actors and their ability to tell stories and make people feel emotion. Something I wasn’t able to do. Their story telling abilities left me intrigued throughout my childhood and sparked interest and soon involvement in music, acting, and graphic design. All which “tell stories” in a creative way. My speech problem would soon dissolve as I practiced simply expressing myself through the arts.

I, later went to The High school for Creative and Performing Arts in South Philadelphia and majored in theater and film. My experience in film editing sparked an interest in graphic and web design. I became increasingly passionate about design and helping “stuttering” brands find their voice. This was the birth of LoveArts in 2009, where I became designing marketing collateral for local businesses and churches in my bedroom.

We have now produced graphic design and branding work for over 400+ companies around the world. LoveArts Design Studios is an award winning Philadelphia/Atlanta based firm, offering visual and interactive solutions through branding, print design and web development.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to building a sustainable graphic design business has been a beautiful struggle. I can’t tell you how many times I was tempted to call it quits and type in I think my biggest challenge had more to do with self confidence than running the actual business. When I come across the vast amount of creatives in my industry and the incredible work they produced, I sometimes drift into comparison and self competence. When this happens, I’ve learned to immediately remind myself why I started and to be inspired rather then intimidated by peers.

I also learned early that working “on” my business is just as important as working “in” my business. When you only focus on producing good work, the business infrastructure tend to get neglected. Balancing the two has been difficult in the past especially if you’re just starting out and can’t afford to high an administrative assistance and project managers.

LoveArts Inc – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
