Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Minchew.
Julie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been a strategist for years – working at agencies to market some of the biggest brands in the world. As my career advanced, prioritizing my health became harder. I noticed this was a trend with my colleagues too. Health was being sacrificed.
I didn’t want to lose control of my own wellbeing, so I started figuring out how to make healthy behavior easier and more convenient. What I discovered was the power of habits and the role of strategy in developing them. To me, this was the game changer. I wanted to share this and help other people realize their own health potential. I completed the Health Coaching program at Emory University and started my business.
Has it been a smooth road?
Health Coaching is not a common profession – at least the way I do it. So the biggest struggle has been getting people to understand what I do and how simple tweaks lead to lasting changes. We are a society of extremes and short-term fixes. This is especially the case when it comes to trying to live healthy – diets, 30-day challenges, weight-loss shakes, resolutions, etc. These things can help jumpstart or reset behavior, but very rarely do they create long-term results. The Well Fit plays the long game – no shortcuts.
Also, company wellness programs traditionally have been focused on giving employees information about themselves, like BMI or blood pressure, but not the tools to do something about it. I’m disrupting this model. The Well Fit helps companies build a culture that puts wellness at the core. My approach is more holistic, foundational and repeatable– which is different than most. Different sometimes can be a harder sell.

The Well Fit is a health coaching practice that works with individuals and companies. We do personal one-on-one coaching and develop multi-faceted company wellness programs that encourage the development of healthy habits. We are all about habits, not hacks. By taking a more strategic, long-term approach, people find wellness that fits their life. So no matter the health goal, people get the tools to make it happen.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think Atlanta is a great place for Health Coaches. The Beltline is encouraging more people to bike and walk. Fitness studios and gyms are opening, and farmers markets and health stores are popping up across the area. Health Coaches can help people take advantage of these developments and also be a voice in the community to further them. It’s an exciting time to be in Atlanta right now – there’s so much growth happening. The more we can make good health accessible to all citizens the more our city will flourish. Health Coaches can help with this.
