Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadeem Pardue.
Kadeem, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I understand how our community feels about getting started with tech/programming.
I was introduced to my first line of code at 16 years old. I was intimidated, frustrated and a little embarrassed. And I almost quit shortly after. But eventually, I found my path.
Now that I’m 30, I’ve gained knowledge and skills that have helped me create apps and live the life of my dreams. I’ve built apps and websites that have earned millions of dollars for others.
Now I teach my community to help them do the same.
I created the Black Tech Academy – an online educational platform for blacks.
Our mission is to help students “Learn from a community that looks like you and shares your experiences.”
We offer free online tech courses to help us reach our goals. Courses are 100% free.
We also have monetary scholarship awards, kickback rewards, and graduation ceremonies in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The biggest challenge was believing in myself. It can be difficult when you first start out and you don’t know where to start and it can be debilitating. I had to surround myself with the right people who inspire me and are grinding. That allowed me to realize the power I had in myself and build my confidence to push through.
Please tell us about Black Tech Academy.
Education Technology continues to see growth with each new tech innovation. But it still needs more tools for blacks.
Our platform helps people of color to teach and earn an income. It also helps them grow their influence.
Instructors who join create learning tracts that lead to outcomes that students want.
The courses within those tracts are easy to learn and in-demand.
Our staff approves the best lessons and rejects the rest. Surveys appear at the end of each course. Once surveys are submitted, we share them with the instructors. This way, our platform improves through real feedback. We screen instructors through interviews. We also do background checks on them.
Our business is a network of service providers – and at the center of it are the students themselves. They create the community and motivation we all need. That’s what makes us unique and why we offer all of our courses completely free.
I am proud of my team. They help me bring this idea into a reality and everyone believes in the mission.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t start over. This is necessary and I wouldn’t have changed anything. I choose not to live with regrets and I understand the impact this platform has on our community.
