Meet Karen Gramlich of Winey Blonde Events in Woodstock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Gramlich.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My journey started in 2010 working for a wedding planner based in Atlanta. During that time, I was working full time and would help coordinate weddings on the weekend. I wasn’t sure where my journey would take me, but knew it was something I hoped to do full time one day. As I continued to grow in the industry, more and more friends started asking for me to coordinate their weddings and so Winey Blonde Events was created.

Winey is actually my grandmother’s maiden name so it was a bit of a play on words. There was an ongoing joke that I was from the “Winey” side of the family.

Weddings are such a momentous occasion and it is such an honor to help brides on wedding day.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting your own business in a very competitive and not always friendly market has been tough. When I was in school they didn’t have wedding planning degrees or very many programs on how you could learn more about the industry without already being in it. There have certainly been ups and downs along the way, but I think the hardest part is getting your name out there and connecting with the vendors that fit you the best. Referrals are what has by far grown our company the most!

Please tell us about Winey Blonde Events.
We are a small wedding planning company that specializes in day of (also known as month of) coordination, partial planning and full-service planning. We are best known for our work ethic on wedding day and leading up to the wedding. One thing that is unique about us is that our full-service brides have access to all of our wedding decor. We have lanterns, vases, signage, cake stand and all kinds of goodies that they are welcome to use at no additional cost.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up, my mom always held large family get togethers. I think it’s these memories that caused me to love event planning.
