Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaycia Rhone.
Kaycia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was exposed to the world of event planning in college. I was always a part of some committee or involved in planning somewhere but hadn’t really considered it as a career. I knew from early on that whatever I did had to involve some level of creativity. After taking some hospitality courses, the Event Management industry had really piqued my interest.
I graduated from Georgia State University with my Bachelors of Business Administration and a Certificate in Hospitality Administration. Shortly after finishing college, I took on a brief internship with a Marketing and Hospitality company. That internship referred me to help plan an event with a company that later hired me full time. I was a freelance planner from 2010 until I launched my company in 2012.
I started off planning small events for friends and family and did a lot of work for a local charity. That helped me gain a lot of real-world experience. After becoming a mother, I knew I wanted to revamp my business. I was in my early twenties when I started out and my style and personality had evolved since those days. I needed my business to portray sophistication and elegance but still be a little fun and most importantly authentic.
In 2017, I revamped my brand, put new systems in place, and invested in a ton of continuing education courses. I became a certified Wedding Planner through the Bridal Society, which I am now I Diamond Member of. The funny thing about seeking to learn more is that there’s always more to learn. Like any other industry, the Wedding & Event Planning industry is always evolving. So I’ve made that one of my goals- keep learning as much as I can.
Since revamping, I’m excited about new opportunities that have come up and the direction of my business. I just continue to put in the hard work every day.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say my entrepreneurial journey has exactly been a smooth road. I think few business owners if any will say that. Starting out, you are the investor, manager, marketing director, communications manager, administrative assistant, and in my case- planner and designer. The trick is finding the right balance for your business- deciding what to delegate and what to handle yourself. At the end of the day, you get to do something you love so nothing could be better. It just takes some time to find your niche.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kaycia Rhone Events story. Tell us more about the business.
Kaycia Rhone Events provides planning and design services for events. Our packages include Full-Service Planning, Event Day Management, Event Design, and clients also have an option to customize a package. There’s something suitable for everyone because I know no two clients have the same needs. I plan weddings, corporate events, and celebrations (showers, birthdays, anniversaries, etc.). The KRE difference is the client-centered experience each client receives and not just on the event day, but from the moment they start planning with me.
I’m most proud of the personalized experience my clients receive. I spend a lot of time getting in tune with their vision so I can make sure I execute it perfectly. When they say their day was “exactly what I wanted”, I know I’ve done my job well.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t say luck has played much of a role. Prayer and perseverance have definitely led me on this path. Prayer has kept me grounded and helped me to make sound decisions. Perseverance has kept me in it for the long haul.
