Being a Chemistry professor and entrepreneur has always lead me to a place to combine my education with my passion. Growing up, my grandfather use to make homemade ice cream for the family. I loved the taste of fresh ice cream. However, one of the disadvantages was it took so long to produce. Although, freezing things with liquid nitrogen was not a new concept, I had never thought about making it a business. I began to experiment with flavors and ingredients using the old method of ice making. Once I choose my top 7 flavors, I decided on a name and a business model. Science + Artisan Ice Cream = N7 Kream Lab!! Nitrogen has an atomic number of #7 on the periodic table, so what a better name.
We began to travel around to festivals as well as corporate catering.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest obstacle has been location and exposure. We are primarily mobile however, we had a temporary mall kiosk. Being mobile we have to make sure we have a regular presence in social media. This has been our biggest obstacle due to the fact that ice cream is seasonal so staying in front of our potential clients is key.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the N7 Kream Lab story. Tell us more about the business.
N7 Kream Lab is an artisan ice cream company that uses liquid nitrogen to freeze its signature base. We specilize fresh made to order ice cream with diary and non diary options. By flash freezing our ice cream base with liquid nitrogen it creates a smooth creamy texture without the use of artificial emulsifiers or preservatives.
Our liquid nitrogen ice cream catering component offers a unique twist to weddings, birthday parties, bar/batmitzvahs, baby showers and whatever occasion the customer can put together. A full service sundae bar to liquid nitrogen infused adult drinks… we can cater it.
N7 Kream Lab also provide in-school liquid nitrogen presentations to encourage and spark curiously in the areas of STEM. This is a major commitment for us. Encouraging students especially under represented minority’s groups towards the area of STEM is our pride and joy.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Liquid nitrogen ice cream company’s will continue to grow in the next 5 years. We plan to expand our company to include franchisees across the country.
