Meet Kita Bryant of Sweetgrass Roots in Conyers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kita Bryant.

Kita, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started as a blogger in 2010 here in Atlanta. After a few years of blogging and learning the ropes of how to market and get content out there, I started to help other bloggers which then turned into helping them not just blog but start businesses. I have worked with a lot of companies due to me blogging so I formed relationships with these companies which led me to work with them on social media campaigns, brand photography, and helping them get their content out there to everyday regular people. After a while, my late husband and I decided to start doing websites and logos which then turned into a big business. Sadly after he passed I took a hiatus but in honor of him, I knew that I had to keep going. So I did….. under a different name. I started fresh with the same concept that we had. Today I offer more than just logos! I tie everything that I have done into one big business. Sweetgrass Roots offers social media management, brand photography, business consulting, logos, and sometimes just an ear to hear your ideas and give you feedback in a positive way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but entrepreneurship rarely is. I don’t like smooth roads….the smoother it is the harder the bump will be when you get to that bump and trust me you will get to that bump. I have lost my mother and my husband within a few years…. I know struggle. I had to learn how to survive after he died because I have kids to raise. The road has taught me that even though bumps come… can still get up and keep moving. You may have to travel a different road sometimes but never take your eyes off the destination. Owning a business is tough when you don’t have an investor or money just laying around. I had to do without a lot of things to get my business off the ground and I had to do a lot of things for free. I heard a lot of no’s and I heard a lot of you will never succeed because you don’t have the help. Trust me I was a one-man show for a while with 3 hours of sleep most nights but I am so glad I am in a position to hire help. The bump didn’t stop me from reaching my destination!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sweetgrass Roots – what should we know?
Sweetgrass Roots is a branding, visual, and communication company. We are known for weaving the YOU into your brand. Every brand starts with a person but people buy from the story. If you started a business after losing a loved one (I did), if you started a business while sleeping in your car, if you started a business with a husband overseas, if you started the business as a single mom/dad, etc. People want to know the why. This is what drives people to you. There are a million cupcake companies but I will buy from the one that touches me the most.

The branding part is where your logo and consulting comes in. We help you set up your website, put you in contact with the best web developers to fit your budget, come up with a logo that fits who you are, and we listen to your story.

Visual is the key to pulling at the heartstrings (and coins lol) of people. What do videos and pictures have to do with your company? EVERYTHING.

Communication is key! How you communicate with your audience is what we narrow down. We do this in all areas but we especially do this with social media because although word of mouth is number 1, social media is number 2.

The thing that ties all of this together is that we listen to the story. That is what sets us apart. We aren’t that boring company that just helps you start a business we listen, we laugh, we get to the heart, we tell the truth, and we tell your story in a way that draws people to you.

As a company, I am most proud of my clients. Their stories…..some of them have my team and I crying so much that we sometimes have to take a moment to call them back because their stories are so powerful. I am so proud of each and every client that we have. They know starting a business won’t be easy but they put in the work and we love showing them off.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband played a big role in my ability to get up and keep moving. We didn’t do all this work for me to sit around and waste my time not living up to the expectations he set forth. My mom was important in always telling me that a no doesn’t kill you. I also want to give credit to a professor who told me that I would never be a business owner. In college when my mom had a round with cancer I failed a few classes. I went to the professor to explain to him why I was failing and he told me “Save your excuses for someone who cares, you will never be a business owner you might as well give up now” I want to thank him the most because had he not told me what I couldn’t be, I would never be what I am today.
