Meet Koby Gillam of Eazie Peazie Naturals in Decatur

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koby Gillam.

Koby, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Eazie Peazie Naturals came out of a need for my own skin issues. I was experiencing eczema that came in waves. It started on my stomach and then it really hit me on the inside of my arms. We got the diagnosis after my mom took me to the dermatologist. Of course, they are going to give you all types of things that have ingredients of things that you don’t know or pronounce. After dealing with the creams for a while, I was tired of applying things to the largest organ of my body and decided to go the natural route. I created soap and whipped body butter that had changed the appearance of my skin drastically. After seeing great results for myself, I decided that I wanted to help people. So, December of 2015, my mom and I were hosting a Christmas party and I put out a few items for the guests to look at and purchase. Being the person that stays two steps ahead, I had square just in case people didn’t have cash, lol. Many people bought my items that night but the true test was if they were going to come back and buy again.

Weeks later, they were calling me to repurchase the oatmeal soap, now called Oats, My Honey, because they were seeing a huge improvement for their skin and their children’s skin that we’re dealing with eczema. That is when I knew it was time to actually make this a business. That is how Eazie Peazie Naturals came to be.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road, simply because people don’t want to support all time because they don’t think that you are a legitimate company because you aren’t a company like Dove or Shea Moisture. Fortunately, after people take a chance on you and actually see what you offer, they become lifelong customers and I appreciate them so much for that.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Eazie Peazie Naturals is an all-natural skincare company that gears toward bringing awareness to what is inside of your skincare. I use all natural ingredients that you recognize and pronounce. Based on popular customer comments, I specialize in eczema care. I have also helped older customers with their dry skin, a side effect from some medications that they take.

I am most proud of being able to help people. I take pride and it makes me smile when customers come back and tell me how it has changed their life. When I look back and think that I started this just for me in the beginning but it actually turned out that I was meant to create for other people and help them. Eazie Peazie Naturals is about to go through a relaunch that brings more education on skincare, aromatherapy, and herbs to the customers, the goal is to make Eazie Peazie Naturals a lifestyle brand.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always an entrepreneur. When I was young I had a mobile spa every summer. I created flyers in word and put them in mailboxes for my neighbors. I offered facials, pedicures, and massages. I also had a leaf racking service and a lemonade stand, of course. When I was young, I didn’t think of it as entrepreneurship at that time, I was just trying to make a little money but I always knew that working for myself and helping people was something that I always wanted to do.
