Meet LaTonya Wright of Urban.ish Digital

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTonya Wright.

LaTonya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Back in high school, I competed on the speech and debate team and I won several Pageants. A Fashion Designer who was close friends with my older sister treated me like his little sister and taught me what he knew about the business of fashion and allowed me to model in his fashion shows. I worked part-time in a hair salon and participated as a hair model in several hair shows. The owner of the salon took me under her wing and taught me anything I wanted to know about the business. I furthered my education to study Broadcasting at Columbia College Chicago and I graduated from John Robert Powers, The Modeling Acting Agency, and Finishing School. I started off my entrepreneurship by producing Fashion and Hair shows for business owners and hosting other events for different producers. I moved from North Chicago to Atlanta after I had my Son, first child, with the intention to transfer my education to The Art Institute Atlanta, but life took a different turn. I did not continue my education but I continued to grow my family and had my Daughter, the second child.

By that being said, I did not stay focused on my passion for the media and entertainment industry. I decided to seek a career in the corporate world and eventually found the opportunity to make a decent salary without a degree in Property Management. As the years went by, I never lost my passion for entrepreneurship, so I dabbled in several different businesses such as health, beauty, retail, and life insurance, just to name a few. I started back in the entertainment industry after both of my children were away in College. It was my daughter’s idea for me to do what I loved to do, so I did. I started off by submitting for extra roles in major films and auditioning for local stage plays and film productions.

After I got some exposure and met a lot of people in the industry, I decided to switch gears and create platforms. I decided to go into business with someone else and opened up a studio café called The Legacy Studio Café, the home of film, food, and fun. We hosted public and private events, served an American flare menu, catered, filmed, produced stage plays, and much more! Along the way, my business partner decided to part ways, so I partnered up with now my current business partner on the production side of the business. My husband and I continued with the food side until we decided to move on to other ventures. Throughout those years, we formed Urban.ish Digital, which covers most of the areas of our desires in the multi-media entertainment industry. Urban.ish Digital is a multi-media entertainment platform that offers Radio, Podcast, Blog, TV & Film Production.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. I have struggled with finding the right team to work with. It is a challenge coming across like-minded people that understand the hard work that comes with being an entrepreneur. Also, not having the capital to fund my passion was tough. I have always believed in having multiple streams of income, so I dabbled in several different businesses to keep income coming in from different sources. This has not been easy, but it is necessary to generate multiple streams of income and to work with like-minded people.

Please tell us about Urban.ish Digital.

It is hard to say what I do. As a Founder and Executive Producer, I do whatever needs to be done. It truly takes a team and I consider myself a leader and a team player. I enjoy being in front of the camera, but I am most comfortable behind the scenes.

I am most proud of my team. It is not easy finding like-minded people with the same drive to reach the goal. I feel Urban.ish is set apart from the others because we offer a one-stop-shop. www.Urbanish-Digital.com is the best way to stay up to date with all the platforms.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I have learned not to doubt myself and follow my gut instinct!
