Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyric Thomas.
Lyric, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was in middle school I loved hats. All types of hats and wanted to design hats that did anything including fly or change colors.20 years later after I graduated college, had a beautiful family and started my first business computer consultations and services I felt like my creativity was being stifled so with the help of a few facebook friends, family and youtube I learned to sew, and with my IT background I designed my hats and brought my vision to life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
IT definitely hasn’t been easy. Learning how to sew from YouTube and learning about the different types of fabrics and materials and what machines I needed and how to use them was hard. Investing all my time and money into turn computer graphics into physical pieces was challenging. After several failed hats and fabric and cuts and gluing my fingers together and to other things I finally achieved my template for my custom made hats.
Star Quality Fitted – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is called Star Quality Fitted. It is the birthplace of the Dashiki hat amongst other headgear. Including head wraps, ear muffs, fitted hats, snapbacks, baseball hats, etc. Our featured line is called “Pride”. It brings additional light to our culture with positivity and fashion. What sets us apart is we do hats that haven’t been created.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment in my career was the beginning. Seeing everyone’s faces when I made my first hat and them telling me that they are proud of me.
