Meet Maleeka T. Hollaway of The Official Maleeka Group (The OMG) in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maleeka T. Hollaway.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Maleeka. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, my name is Maleeka T. Hollaway and I am the founder of The Official Maleeka Group which most know as The OMG. We are a brand communications and PR agency for six and seven figure entrepreneurs and small business owners. I’ve been featured in a few notable publications such as Huff Post, Forbes and Black Enterprise due to my knowledge of business, leadership and personal and professional development. My goal is to show everyone I meet that every day you are alive is a day that you can make a decision that can positively impact your life forever.

The story behind me even officially launching The OMG stems from my personal experience with domestic abuse. I co-authored a book, sharing my story and it brought me much exposure. That exposure led me to get serious about my career which has ultimately been in entrepreneurship. The more I shared my story, the more people were interested in me and what I did. People don’t realize that a personal story can do so much for business.

I didn’t think about starting a company when I wrote the book. Everything just kind of fell into place. When you’re in a dark space mentally, all you want to do is see the light. That’s what launching my company was and is for me. A light. My saving grace.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think business ownership is ever a smooth road. Sure there are times where everything seems to be happening in your favor, but then there are times where you second guess your entire life. You’ll wonder if you made the right decision by taking the leap and starting your own business.

For me, my biggest obstacle was pivoting from having a more structured work-life to being flexible and not being able to pinpoint every part of every project. I’m a structure junkie so when I didn’t get that, I used to have mini-meltdowns. Now, I’ve learned that in business ownership, I have to be able to roll with the punches and be able to pivot and shift gears as often as necessary.

The Official Maleeka Group (The OMG) – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a brand communications and PR agency for six and seven figure entrepreneurs and small business owners. We started off as a writing and editing services company and due to testing and tweaking over the years, we’ve been able to expand our services to cover a more specialized and targeted audience settling in brand communications, which most know as public relations and brand development.

I’m a natural communicator and a gifted writer, being able to tell the same story five different ways was intriguing to me so I went and got a Masters in my field and the rest has been history. We are known for delivering results for our clients that positions them as professionals but as people first. Our philosophy is that people do business with other people so when we approach our client’s project’s we keep people at the center of everything we do.

We help our clients become experts at communicating who they are, what they do, what they have to offer of value and who they aim to serve. We are natural storytellers so we also work without clients to develop brand recognition through storytelling that gets them credibility with their target market.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is in the eye of the beholder. Success to me is first being able to create a legacy for my family to experiences long after I’m gone. Success is having people know who I am based on my character and my integrity. Success is making a difference in the world one day at a time by positively influencing one person at a time.

I know that I am on the right track every time a client experiences a new milestone in their business, when one of my family members start asking me about starting their own business and when people I meet know me for being me!
