Meet Mark Brown of For Goodness Cakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Brown.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For Goodness Cakes was founded in a basement back in 2001. Fifteen years later, what started as a passion has now turned into a full-fledged business with 10 employees! Our mission is to bring joy, excitement and enthusiasm to all our customers through quality crafted cakes. We do so today through partnerships with event planners, wedding venues and catering companies. We are excited about the future as we have new products and services that will help us expand even further than the metro Atlanta area.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think any business has a smooth road. We’ve seen everything from unexpected slow sales, changes in key personnel to an ownership transition. However, we also know that change is the only constant in business and that we need to be prepared to evolve to meet the needs of our customers. We are looking forward to all challenges, both big and small, because it all leads to a learning experience. Learning experiences eventually make us a better company!

Please tell us about For Goodness Cakes.
We make all kinds of cakes (wedding, grooms, custom cakes, cupcakes and even cookies!) for all types of events (weddings, birthdays, corporate parties, social gatherings/celebrations).

We are most know for our awesome looking and tasting wedding cakes.

The moistness of our cakes is what separates us for our competitors. Everyone can make a beautiful cake. Some can make a moist tasting cake. But we can do both!

We are most proud of our newest cake offering called “Cake It With You!”. We will be selling our cakes in jars starting this fall online at www.forgoodnesscakes.net. It’s a new adventure for our company and it’s an awesome way to get our great tasting cakes without having to have a super special occasion usually.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have figured out e-commerce sooner. We need to be able to get our great tasting cakes outside of the metro Atlanta area. We’ll soon begin the process of growing nationally!
