Meet Maurizio Bortolussi of Bortolussi in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurizio Bortolussi.

Maurizio, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Maurizio Bortolussi was born in Houston, Texas and grew up in a bilingual household with two older brothers.

Bortolussi’s entrepreneurial spirit began at the age of 18, Bortolussi, when he started his first company: Reunion Rivolta. Everything changed when at 19, his grandmother taught him how to sew. He left his company and ran with a new passion.

With new knowledge, Bortolussi hand-stitched custom shirts and jackets, sewing pieces to the garments to create something totally new. This led to his first collection, which he dedicated to his uncle.

Fame was never far away. Bortolussi was now receiving requests from multi-national artists such as rapper’s YFN LUCCI, DAGDA, Kenshin F, TrouBle, 147 Calboy and hall-of-famer: Julius “Dr.J” Erving.

Every minute invested in the pieces is done with heart and passion. From carefully handcrafting garments to sourcing the finest and most unique fabrics, it’s his mission to create what people have never seen before.

That’s the spirit of Bortolussi.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has been a smooth road; I really pace myself when working on my clothing. I would say that school does get in the way of my collections and what I have planned; sometimes school changes my ideas, making me sit and think of a new idea. I personally treat collections like a musicians EP or album; I take my time to really perfect my clothing and make sure the whole collection flows.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company is really based on my background and my passion for clothing. I don’t plan on specializing in anything; my brand will have everything, including accessories, shoes, heels, womenswear.

My clothing as of now is unisex, which makes me want to be able to have some pieces just for men or women and then some pieces for both sexes.

I’m known for my designs and my craftsmanship and detail that goes into every garment created.

I personally am proud of the success I had in my first collection. The collection was really meaningful to me. Back in 2018, my uncle committed suicide at a young age and I want to share what he loved through clothing. He loved working with cars, music, family. I decided to make some articles of clothing bleached giving it a touch as if it was stained with car oil.

I personally think that my background sets me apart from others. Growing up in a bilingual household was very new. My dad’s Italian heritage and my mother’s Mexican heritage really brought Mexico, America, and Italy into my clothing. Make my pieces very unique and making most garments a 1 of 1, meaning it won’t ever be produced again.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is an amazing place to start, so many states are close-minded in the fashion industry, growing up in Houston, TX. It was very close-minded and I felt like everyone would just stare at my style since I didn’t fit in. I suggest young designers to definitely start out here, so many people will help you out and you will get noticed real quick.

  • It really depends on what the garments are constructed of, meaning some have exotic skins on them or leather. Jeans range from 400-1.200
  • Jackets range from 800-1.800
  • Shirts range from 400-800.
