Meet Michael Fulmore of Fulmore Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Fulmore.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
During 2007, Banks needed the help of nonprofits to restore their names and help families get back into their homes. I was fortunate enough to be one of those nonprofits who had a lot of experience in housing in real estate development.

Since 2007 we have helped hundreds of families all across the US to become homeowners. Most of those families being low to moderate income families, wouldn’t normally be able to buy a home.

There are many homes that we buy and restore and offer to families that we’ve never physically seen. We’ve even done projects in cities that we’ve never visited. It’s amazing how you can run an entire organization with a cell phone and the laptop.

Our office is in downtown Atlanta in the Buckhead area but it’s mainly used for larger meetings and complicated projects. This year we’ve decided to scale all efforts by partnering with HUD, utilizing sponsorships and partnering with other organizations with similar initiatives…

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the hurdles we faced where the woes of bad partnerships and hiring unproductive staff members. I soon learned attitude comes along with the territory. Even if someone’s a good employee, they may not fit into your culture. Our culture is the kind where we embrace servant leadership and not the kind where people just collect a paycheck. Our focus is to change communities and it takes a special breed of people to do such a thing. A huge lesson I’ve learned from that partnerships is that you can’t expect every opportunity to be a good opportunity. Sometimes you just want to make things happen so bad that you partner with people that have different goals than yours.

I’ve learned that you just have to be clear about what you want and not be afraid to hurt people’s feelings.

Fulmore Foundation – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Fulmore Foundation helps low to moderate income families become homeowners.

We partner with large Banks, institutions, municipalities, and individual donors to gain access to properties and land that we can offer to the families we assist. I’m most proud of the number of families we’ve been able to help in a very short period of time. There are other organizations like ours however, I haven’t seen too many groups be as creative as we have in helping family become homeowners. For instance, we offer lease to own programs, will help with financing, and we’ll even personalize a home to fit a family’s needs.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I can’t say that I’m most proud of anything yet. I feel like I have so much to do. My foundation is growing, my book “Unleashing Your Ambition” is climbing the best seller’s charts, and I have so many other projects that I’ve yet to be revealed. But rest assured I have a lot more to accomplish.
