Meet Michelle Maney of MonkiPaw Photography in McDonough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Maney.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I saw my first National Geographic magazine I wanted to be a nature photographer. I would watch Animal Planet and nature documentaries and pretend I was actually there. After receiving my first camera I shot as much as I could. I went to college for a couple of years but realized it wasn’t for me so I turned to the internet. I did a lot of research and learned as much as I could.

But I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and start shooting portraits. Once again I did my research and learned all I could. I joined Facebook groups in search of anyone who would let me photograph them for practice and I learned so much from doing just that. PRACTICING.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I am not a people person at all. I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to them. The biggest challenge for me was having the confidence to do something I thought I’d never been able to do and not compare myself to others.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I love macro photography. There are so many amazing things that we can’t see unless we take a closer look. I like to take those things and magnify them and show everyone how beautiful they can be. I want to capture moments. I want my clients to see themselves and not only smile but to feel something. I want everyone to see my work and say wow she really did something.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am hoping to expand my portfolio for both my nature and portrait photography. I want to shoot families, seniors, couples, maternity, and maybe even some high fashion. I would also like to travel more. Not only capture the tiny things we can’t see but also the huge things we can.
