Meet Raven Johnson of Pour Up Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raven Johnson.

Raven, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a Higher Education & Student Affairs professional, Leadership Educator, certified Mixologist and Pour Up Atlanta Owner. I have developed a comprehensive knowledge of mixology and love mixing and creating cocktails for others to enjoy!

My parents, Bruce & Alia Johnson, are accomplished business owners and have always instilled the importance of hard work and passion for what you do. They raised me to be independent and to value ongoing education and personal development. Basically, I was always destined to be a business owner, like my parents. Now, I am 25 years old, a business owner and working in my passion! My godmother referred to be as “indefatigable”, meaning “incapable of being slowed down or tired out” and I would agree 100%. I do not give up. If my goal is something I truly believe in, I will fight for it and find a way to bring it to fruition.

I have had my bartending certification since I was 21 years old. My step-mother, Alia, encouraged me to seek new ways to find multiple streams of income, and so she purchased my bartender school course! Upon entry into Graduate School, I decided to work for bartender staffing companies, in order to obtain a more flexible schedule due to my classes.

Four staffing companies, and one year after obtaining a career in student affairs, I was finally ready to start Pour Up Atlanta and provide a unique experience for my clients. I was tired of how I was treated by the owners of these companies. In addition, I did not see many creative and innovative practices at those companies. I decided to create my own, unique bar catering experience!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I began my business with $0.00, so of course, there are obstacles! I am an activator by nature. “When can we start?” is a recurring question in my life. I like to use action as my learning. Therefore, I made the decision to start Pour Up Atlanta, I have been assessing different processes and I learn as I grow. The road is still ongoing and it’s been a lot of WORK, but I am truly enjoying the process!

We’d love to hear more about your business.

What were you like growing up?
I asked my dad this question a few days and he said, “Raven was a very inquisitive young lady. She had a great deal of charisma for sure. She was born a natural, fearless leader in every aspect, including her involvement in dance and cheerleading. She excelled in everything she did because of her fierce spirit, while also being very conscious of her fellow teammates and contenders. Overall, Raven never gave up, no matter the circumstance. I am proud.” I recall wanting to be an actress as a child. I am very theatrical if you will! I have always enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends!
