Meet Reese Lewis of Savor Training Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reese Lewis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2012, I was 21, bright eyed and bushy tailed packed up everything in my hometown of Columbus, Ga and moved to Atlanta in search for something.

I landed a job working with South City Kitchen in Midtown as a host and learned more about food than I ever thought possible. I realized food could be more than the large food chains I grew up knowing.

I spent the next five years working my way up through the ranks from host, to busser, to server, to bartender, to management.

In Feb. 2017, I attended my first Servsafe class. That’s when I realized the opportunity for me to really make an impact. Food safety wasn’t fun, exciting or interesting but it could be. It won’t be until food safety is fun to talk about that it can become an everyday discussion about what we can do to keep our delicious food safe.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting a business itself is not an easy feat. I spent many hours poring over local business laws, business tax information, marketing compliance laws along with the GA state food code, alcohol policies, and contract agreements.

Many nights, I lay awake, trying to figure out how to get my website to be more user-friendly and streamlined.

The National Restaurant Association is always putting out tons of information and the Ga Department of Public Health has many updates so keeping up with latest is also a challenge.

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Savor Training Company story. Tell us more about the business.
Savor Training Company is a young tech savvy company that specializes in food safety training. We are known for teaching and administering the Servsafe exam but are building a program for restaurants to implement that will give them a practice run of what they can expect from the health department during an inspection.

We are not the old school pen and paper company. The course is 4 to 6 hours, the test is administered online and you get your results the same day!

My relationship with my students doesn’t end at the test. They can email me at any time for health and safety questions. I am even building a newsletter that will provide monthly tips and updates for food safety from the NRA, DPH, and CDC.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am very lucky to be working with Jantos Human Resources LLC, in Woodstock, Ga. It provides me with a physical location and a great conference room as well as they offer the course in Spanish so I can advertise for them on my site as well.
