Meet Rick Meekins of Aepiphanni Business Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rick Meekins.

Rick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been interested in business and engineering since grade school. The way that businesses compete and the strategy have always been a draw for me; the way engineers develop unique solutions to difficult problems has always been my other draw.

While I had a number of small ventures before starting Aepiphanni, the real catalyst for starting it was after converting my catering company into a restaurant. I’d found that there were gaps in operations and opportunities for growth that I, as the chef-owner, had difficulty focusing on to the degree that it could have been impactful. I noticed in other companies that I associated with that while they, too, were excellent producers of their crafts, their operations were often hampered due to either time or even clear direction.

In 2005. Aepiphanni was started to answer the need in the marketplace. In 2012, the Company was incorporated as an S-Corp in the State of Georgia. The company focuses on providing support to businesses and entrepreneurs who want to optimize their operations, plan for growth or have support managing their companies. We have worked with clients to help them organize and improve the way that their companies run, often enabling them to save money and increase revenue by engineering processes and systems and developing specific marketing and sales initiatives and tools.

We’ve helped other clients figure out what was next for their company, looking at their competitors, the industry and other impactors including their own strengths and weaknesses to identify opportunities in the market place and design the business to take advantage of that opportunity.

The third set of clients has typically been those who have an existing business and simply need someone to take over or support regular management activities – marketing, product management, financial management, HR management or general management – so that they could focus on delivering their service. Others who may be entrepreneurial, have asked us to manage operations during their start-up and growth phase. A number of the skill sets we have in-house, but we also have a vast network of providers who can offer unique skill sets when necessary.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The recession in 2008 hit the company during its fledgling years, The marketplace had simply stopped spending and companies were going out of business every day. Between 2008 and 2010 were the most challenging years, but we managed to hang on

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Aepiphanni Business Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
Aepiphanni is a Management Consulting Firm, which means that we work with management and leadership teams to transform their companies. That may come as advisory support, consulting on very specific tasks such as developing and delivering staff and/or leadership training programs, customizing and implementing software solutions or determining the best way to complete a task or set of tasks, or operations management, where we might handle the books, marketing management, vendor selection or productivity.

Aepiphanni’s expertise is in business operations. We help companies improve day to day operations, plan for the future and how the business operations will need to adapt in order to support the future business and run operations or part of operations for companies.

I am proud of the number of companies we have served over the years and to be able to go back and talk with most of them about the positive impact we have made on their businesses and the way that they do business. We have worked with companies that have been among the best in their fields and have helped them level up.

We always try to find a way to make our services work for our clients and have come up with some creative packages to do so. We also have flexible delivery models – both in person and online, and our commitment is to our client first, which means that we will often take a lower profit on the front end to ensure that the client has the level of support that is needed for them to accomplish their goals.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We have been fortunate in many instances, more or less doing the work the right way and reaping the rewards, so to speak. We have always had “enough” to keep going, even during lean times.
