Meet Robert Lofton of The Lofton Experience

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Lofton.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m born and raised in Atlanta. I come from a family that cooks. My grandfather owned a BBQ restaurant in East Point, Ga. called “The Pit.” Barbecue is in my blood. I can do that in my sleep. However, while serving in the US Navy, I was able to experience different cultures and food. Visiting such places as Italy, Spain, France, Turkey, and Morocco really open my eyes to expand my cooking.

So, I began trying other dishes. I would cook meals and have people try them and give me feedback. By doing that, it also helped me cook healthy dishes as well. I was able to drop over 60 pounds without compromising the food I love to cook. By adding a few tweaks here and there, I was able to still present amazing dishes without the “extra”. I love to cook. I was told, “once you find something you love to do, you’ll never work again.” If that’s the case, I haven’t worked in a long time.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It defiantly hasn’t been smooth. I had to totally shut down and restart due to partners I once had. It wasn’t easy, however, it was worth it. From the outside looking in, it may have seemed like a loss. But for me, it was a life lesson that was again. It made me trust myself more and the vision I had.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Lofton Experience – what should we know?
The name of the business is The Lofton Experience. What we do is specialize in fine dining. Now, what truly makes us different is this. You don’t come to us, we come to you. We transform your dining room, living room, or outdoor area into an “experience”. Basically, we bring a 5-star quality restaurant experience to the comforts of your home or private event. We are a destination themed dining experience as well. If you can’t travel the world, we bring the world to you.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’ve had so much support from my family and friends. My wife has been tremendous. Not only in helping me explore new dishes but constantly making sure things run smooth. Also my assistant Shekinah Davis. When we have to get somewhere and make it happen, she’s right there.
