Meet Ronald Robinson of GYM-On Fitness in Stone Mountain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronald Robinson.

Ronald, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for health and fitness. I started playing sports and exercising at a very young age and have been engulfed in health and fitness since. I am an 8-year Army Veteran and Ex Firefighter. I received my first Personal Training and Group Instructor Certification 28 years ago at the age of 18. After leaving the military, I went on to work as a personal trainer part-time at several large chain gyms while working full time. But I eventually could not find the time to instruct at all.

I have always had a desire to start my own business. But between working a full-time job and maintaining a regular exercise routine I couldn’t find the time. I knew I couldn’t afford to just give up my present career. I also knew that I did not want to give up the time that I set aside for my personal exercise. It was at that time that I decided to turn to some past advice to help me move forward.

I remember my mother once said, “Don’t continue to work for other people your whole life while they continue to reap the benefits.” I also remember my father saying “If you ever want to know what business is ideal for you just ask yourself one question. What’s the one thing I would do even if I weren’t getting paid for it?” My answer was “exercise”! So, it was at that time I decided to use my love for fitness as a platform to launch my own business.
I started with just a logo that I created as a teenager while not paying attention in history class. The GYM-On Fitness Logo is a combination of the letters “G”, “Y”, & “M.” Those letters not only spell the word “GYM” but it also stands as an acronym for “Get Your Muscle”. I later had that logo along with the slogan “Get Up & Do Something” printed on t-shirts. I put together a few people I knew and started an outside workout team at Stone Mountain Park in 2015. GYM-On Fitness started getting immediate attention. Before we knew it GYM-On Fitness had grown into a full team. We loved training at the mountain so much that we eventually rented an open space in a commercial establishment 1/4 mile from the park entrance. We purchased pieces of equipment here and there until we had more than enough to fill the space. Now we were even better equipped to produce maximum results!

Since moving into our new location in 2018, we continue to experience significant growth. GYM-On Fitness specializes in several areas including Personal Training, Group Training, Youth Training, Run Coaching, Stage Training, Senior Training, Special Needs Training, and more. We have also been able to create the GYM-On Fitness brand of fitness apparel and accessories as well. Through GYM-On Fitness we have been able to support several charitable organizations as well. These organizations include the Veteran’s Empowerment Organization, Gateway Community, & the Annual Kidney Cancer Awareness Event created by Co-Owner & Kidney Cancer Survivor Constance Robinson. I have coined the term “Get Up & Do Something!” and I am doing just that and have no plans of letting up anytime soon.

Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not…

The one thing that started as an advantage eventually became an obstacle. Stone Mountain Park is a great place to get out and run, walk, hike, etc. But with that said most people who visit Stone Mountain Park workout on their own and don’t feel the need for a trainer. Although we continue to market at Stone Mountain we had to learn how to attract individuals who otherwise would not visit the park for exercise purposes. We had to learn to better combine the convenience of inside circuit & personal training with the outside amenities of Stone Mountain Park!

Another challenge is just remaining competitive. There are so many great trainers in the area. With that said we have to continue to stay uniquely competitive… We are definitely up for the challenge!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with GYM-On Fitness – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
GYM-On Fitness is conveniently located less than 1/2 mile from the West Gate of Stone Mountain Park. 1054 Main Street Suite F in the Stone Mountain Plaza Shopping Center. We specialize in results! Our Training environment consists of traditional inside training with a boot camp twist! We are able to combine the convenience of inside circuit & personal training with the outside amenities of Stone Mountain Park! We are proud of the fact that we are consistently able to transform the average individual interested in working with a trainer to an individual consistently asked: “Are you a trainer?”

We train the “whole” body. We have the perfect combination of resistance, cardio, calisthenics, plyometrics, and nutrition counseling to produce maximum results. We also provide full hour training via Circuit Training, weight training, competition training, military preparatory training, run coaching, buddy training, & yoga… We have found that most facilities offer either inside or outside training, resistance or calisthenics, or anaerobic or anaerobic. We offer them all at very reasonable prices. We feel like you shouldn’t have to take out a second mortgage to get in shape!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I love the opportunities that Atlanta provides for everyone! There are so many successful people in Atlanta that are willing to help and inspire others! The sky doesn’t seem so far away when you are able to see like individuals that are already there.
