Meet Samya Houessou of ShopFromMya in South Fulton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samya Houessou.

Samya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my first business as a freshman in high school, it went pretty well, but I was very inconsistent. Since then, I always knew entrepreneurship was for me, but I was having so much trouble finding one particular thing I wanted to sell and build my brand around. I tried selling so many different things, literally anything you could think of I’ve probably sold within the last few years, but I just couldn’t find my niche. Towards the end of my senior year, I knew it was time for me to get serious so I decided to launch ShopFromMya on January 1, 2020. At the time, I still had no clue what products I would be focusing on so I thought creating a generic business name would allow me to sell and market any ideas I came up with along the way. As of now, my brand is constantly growing and I have been consistent for over ten months.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course, every entrepreneur struggles at one point, whether we see it or not. My struggles were definitely within the first three months of launching my business. I was focused on one product and I was not getting sales at all. I probably got one sale within the first three months of me launching my website, which was super discouraging. After a while, I knew I needed to take my ideas back to the drawing board and renovate my product and ideas. I needed to focus more on what my audience liked and improving the quality of the products I was offering. I learned struggles were just the first steps to creating successful products.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ShopFromMya – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The name of my business is “ShopFromMya” because I wanted a brand that could promote every product or service I decide to offer. I pick and design every item that goes on my website, so there is nothing I sell that I wouldn’t personally use or wear. I also offer male clothing and accessories, however, most of my products are catered to teen girls and young women.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to grow my business and move from an online shop to a physical store location in Atlanta within the next two years.
