Meet Sean Tate of Collected Atl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Tate.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sean. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
July 3rd, 2017, my brother and I (Antonio Hooks) who is part owner of Collected Atl were on Melrose and Fairfax in Los Angeles. We walked into Tried and True Company which is a vintage clothing store. As we were browsing the store, we noticed that there were different products in the second half of the store. I’m not sure if it was a business doing a pop-up shop or if it was two separate businesses in the same building.

After Antonio and I walked out of the store, we both looked at each other. I knew we were thinking the same thing. Antonio has over 20 years of experience in the tattoo industry and at the time I was in the process of launching my online vintage clothing store.

Atlanta has never seen a vintage clothing store and a tattoo shop all under one roof, so we took the idea and ran with it.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but we see potential in the business and that’s the most important factor at this point. The biggest struggle at this point is that there are a handful of tattoo shops in our radius. We’ve only been open for a week, so it’s going to take time getting the word out because no one knows who Collected Atl is yet. The customers that have come in to purchase items or get tattoos are impressed with the overall concept.

Please tell us about Collected Atl.
I’m known for being in charge of the clothing side of the business. My responsibility is to purchase new equipment or inventory when needed. I also manage the accounting and operations of the business. My brother, Antonio Hooks is the manager over the tattoo shop.

The biggest thing that sets Collected apart from other companies is that no one has ever seen this business concept before. Right now we have two tattoo artists, they have a combined 30+ years experience in the industry. I’m most proud of being a team and doing business as a collective unit, regardless of position/title.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
There’s way too many! But I would say meeting up with my friends and riding our razor scooters around.

  • There is nothing in the store more than $100 (clothing)
  • Tattoos start at $100 an hour.
