Today we’d like to introduce you to Simmone Shingler.
Simmone, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been creative since I was young. I believe my mother’s creative spark projected onto my sister and I at a very early age. However, 2011 is when I truly started to notice how much I enjoyed photography and became obsessed with taking photos. To give my pictures character, I started to use Instagram and took full advantage of their filter/editing feature. I started to become more intentional with everything I captured which ranged from different poses, angles and the editing style. My Instagram layout was becoming filled up with meals, my outfit of the day, and I always tried to be front and center at concerts just so I could get a great shot at the show.
Fast forward years later, my family, friends and even some followers kept telling me I have a great “eye” and that I should consider taking photography seriously. At the time, I wasn’t fully aware that I had a God-given talent that everyone else noticed besides me. In my eyes, I was simply capturing images that were genuine and that put me in a happy place.
Further along to today, I continue to create images that give myself and others pure joy!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far, yes! At times, it can be tough knowing that I work in a city that consists of many talented creatives that have the same passion as I do. However, it motivates me to become just as great as the people who inspire me. I always have to remember that inspiration should never form into imitation and that I should always create art that is authentic.
Overall, I’m soaking up all of the ins and outs of what this industry consists of. It also helps tremendously that I have peers who have the same interest and can relate to the struggles I may run into. They genuinely support me and give the best advice or help whenever I may need it.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to focus on creating personal projects that push my creativity as a photographer. I’m also looking forward to seeing how my images will transform over the years into timeless photos.
