Meet Slone Williams and Rachel Sanders of S2 Creative Group in Southside | Jonesboro, GA | Clayton County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Slone Williams and Rachel Sanders.

Slone and Rachel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Rachel and I met in 2016 as colleagues, employed by Clayton County Government. I was a Communications Specialist with Clayton County Access Television, and Rachel was a Communications Specialist with the Clayton Parks and Recreation Department.

In May 2016, Rachel contacted me and invited me to lunch, and I happily accepted. During the lunch, Rachel presented the facts and said: “we’re two– educated, black, millennial women, we both have MBAs, years of experience in our fields, a Bachelor’s in Mass Communications and Media Arts, and we are currently working within our field.” The problem at the time was that our salaries did not reflect our education or years of experience. We vented, we laughed, we cried and promised each other that one day we would evolve and flourish if we just stayed focused, outworked our competition, and proved ourselves.

Two years passed, and in May 2018, Rachel reached out and suggested another meeting so we met Downtown Atlanta. During this meeting, Rachel propositioned me with a business opportunity and suggested that we start a Media Production Agency, specializing in video production, social media management, web development, brand development, photography, digital marketing, and media relations. Ironically, in 2018, we both had left Clayton County Government, and were now making suitable salaries within our field. I am now the Communications/Community User Engagement Manager with Cobb County Government, and Rachel, is the Public Affairs Officer with Atlanta-Fulton County Government, and we both love our jobs! I welcomed Rachel’s partnership proposal and agreed to give it a try. Monday, September 17, 2018, S² Creative Group officially launched!

With merely eight months under our belts, we have proudly secured clients such as; Fletcher’s Restaurant and Bar, South Atlanta Magazine, The Cobb Library Foundation, and the 9-1-1 Emergency APP, just to name a few.

Thus far, our journey has been exhilarating, commanding, and quite rewardful. Owning your own business does something to your soul, it elevates your confidence and pulls the Super Woman out of you. In times it has inspired us to feel invincible, pushed us to overcome our fears, and accept all of the new challenges before us with open minds. When we launched last September 2018, we were nervous beyond words! We organized our thoughts, launched our website, created some promotional materials, then went for it, and gave the rest to God! Within the first 5 weeks, we had secured our first contract!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some of the struggles we have encountered along the way were probably the same as many other small businesses, including: uncertainty, millennial stereotypes, competition, and especially financing the business.

We would not be where we are today if it wasn’t for our support system.

These are the things that you should know about S². One of our proudest projects at the moment would be merchandising a Blue Cheese Dressing Sauce for one of our clients. Fletcher’s Restaurant and Bar has been a client of ours for almost a year and we are proud to manage their website, social media, digital marketing, and branding. We recently launched their infamous Fletcher’s Blue Cheese Dressing, and it’s doing very well. We worked on this project for six months, so to see it come to fruition has been especially gratifying (www.FletchersRestaurant.com/blue-cheese-please).

Another project we’re proud to be a part of is the 9-1-1 Emergency App, created by an organization titled, Fight. Win. Survive. The 911 Alert App is a new smartphone app that will instantly text up to 10 designated contacts from a phone dialing 9-1-1. Emergency contacts linked up through the app will be notified of the caller’s location and be connected with fellow contacts through a convenient chat feature that allows all parties to communicate. What we love most about this project is the App itself, it’s the technology needed for all generation groups. We support this App 100% (www.911alert.app).

Lastly, we are currently focused on marketing our brand and building our clientele. We’ve been fortunate thus far as the majority of our clients were referred to us by word of mouth. We haven’t wholeheartedly invested in marketing our business, because we’ve been focused on our clients as their needs come first. However, we have developed some impressive marketing campaigns launching soon, so please stay tuned.
