Meet Stephanie A. Jones of Women at Werk in Downtown ATL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie A. Jones.

Stephanie A., let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am originally from a small town in Marianna, FL. At the age of 16, I gave birth to my first child. Subsequently afterward at 21, I gave birth to my second. In deciding to challenge the statistics surrounding my decision to pursue motherhood I knew that I was going to be expected to prove myself. It was a decision that I made early to embrace my circumstances and showcase value through my hard work. After graduating high school and then college with my Master’s degree I began my career as a mental health provider with hopes of better understanding human nature. Human nature had been so unkind to me as a teen mother and made me feel less than. I wanted to understand ‘the why’ in my maltreatment, not realizing that I would uncover a platform to support so many women advancing themselves mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally. After serving as a human service professional for over ten years, I was introduced to so many inspiring women seeking support and direction. From this passion Women at Werk was born.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been winding. There were times when I, as a mental health provider, experienced depression and felt inadequate to serve not realizing the strength in my own scars. I have learned that I have an amazing capacity to bounce back from any decision that I have made, especially the bad ones. If someone was to ask me what my superpower is I would boast in sharing my stories of resiliency. There has not been a task or goal that I have been unable to achieve. I maintain high levels of personal accountability and have the most amazing tribe from my parents, significant other, extended family, and girlfriends. I always say that the most successful person is a resourceful one. I naturally keep a solution-focused attitude and that has propelled me to enjoy satisfaction in my successes.

Please tell us about Women at Werk.
Women at Werk is a global women’s networking, empowerment, and lifestyle brand. Our mission is to empower, educate, and equip women with the knowledge and tools to close the gap between their current and best self. We seek to bridge the unique experience of every woman with empowerment as our central goal! Our events attract women from diverse backgrounds and industries who are looking to connect and collaborate with other like-minded women in their community.

What sets us apart from others is our attention to fostering an environment for women that is supportive, helpful, and welcoming. Relationships between women can be challenging. At times we can be judgmental, petty, unwelcoming, and overall mean spirited toward our fellow sisters. Our organization encourages building sustainable relationships between women free of the aforementioned.

Our signature event is our Women at Werk Empowerment Conference. The growing following of Women at Werk are mothers, daughters, sisters, and best friends, who are committed to investing in themselves, their careers, and their families. This is an annual showcase designed to inform and inspire women to goal orient themselves with a ‘lift as you climb’ mentality. Women are exposed to multiple plenary speakers strategically selected to uproot their comfort zone and inspire them to WERK FOR IT! We also support women-owned small business through vending opportunities. From this event, we then gift our proceeds to a deserving woman pursuing post-secondary education through our #TheFutureIsFemale Scholarship. Last year we were able to support one deserving woman and we look forward to increasing our contribution in 2019.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
At times the market can feel saturated breeding a sense of competition between those with similar initiatives. I, on the other hand, welcome collaboration. If anyone is looking to build a business, the opportunities are endless with the right amount of flexibility to stand out, while working together. I am of the philosophy that we are #StrongerTogether so I would encourage any person looking to build their business to GO FOR IT! This city is perfect for growth opportunities such as these.
