Today we’d like to introduce you to Teri Darnall.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Teri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2012, I decided to leave my assistant teaching job so I could fulfill my dreams of owning my own business as well as working with animals. Over the next several months I did everything I could to become a legitimate business; getting licensed, incorporated, starting the website, getting certified in pet CPR and First Aid, even having my logo service marked.
In May 2013, Loyal Friend Pet Sitting was born and over the past four years it has continued to grow.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I live in a rural area of west GA and have a small service area so obtaining new clients can be a challenge. For the first two years, I worked another full-time job while building clientele which meant I sometimes worked more than 60 hours a week; pet sitting before and after the other job.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Loyal Friend Pet Sitting – what should we know?
Loyal Friend Pet Sitting is an in-your-home pet care service. When a person is away, perhaps out of town or just at work, I attend to all their pet’s needs. What sets me apart from other pet sitters is my attention to detail, compassion, dedication, and my reliability. I have never turned a client away for service, even if I have to cancel plans or trips of my own. Usually my clients need me when they go out of town. These visits usually last 1 hour but if a pet needs extra care or attention I will extend my visit. Once, on a visit, a client’s A/C went out in their home and I remained at their house until the repairs were made.
Part of my job is caring for the home, which to me means making sure to leave the house in better condition than when the homeowner left; even if that means doing the dishes or mopping the floor. Sometimes a client may have circumstances that make it difficult to pay for my services but I work with them to ensure that their pet still has the best care I can give them.
My goal is not only to provide the best care but also allow my clients to enjoy their time away from home. I received a call from a client who had been unable to vacation alone with his wife for 9 years because they could not find quality at home care for their high maintenance dog. He called to thank me for giving his wife peace of mind so she was finally able to relax and enjoy her vacation without any worry.
One of my clients wrote a testimonial:
What sets Teri apart from others: The first time we met, for our meet and greet that Teri does before the first time she cares for pets, I could tell that something was different about Teri.
Namely, I could tell that she had an emotional investment in our pets the first time she interacted with them. We’ve got a house full of rescues – 6 dogs and 7 cats – so vacations have always been hard. Even when I have someone I can trust, I worry about them being able to take care of so many, watch for the door dashers, and get the food right.
I took my family to Jekyll Island for a week over Thanksgiving, and I never ONCE worried about the care our four legged family was receiving. In all honesty, they’d probably tell you that they got better care and more attention when Teri was in charge than when I’m running the show.
I can’t recommend Teri highly enough – her services will be indispensable going forward if we ever expect to go anywhere! But! Be nice to her – she’s a sweet, caring person, and she goes way above and beyond for those in her care. I truly feel that in her calling, the interaction with the animals and caring for them is the reward she works for. Lord knows her rates don’t reflect the level of service she provides.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My loyalty to my wonderful clients and their pets. And my willingness to go above and beyond.
