Today we’d like to introduce you to Torre Prothro Wiley PhD.
Hi Torre, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a native of Atlanta, GA. I grew up on the Southside/ Campcreek area in a middle class suburban community. My parents both worked in corporate America and taught me how important your work ethic is and to have an unrelenting love and respect for God. I have been a therapist since I was probably 11 years old. I was always giving advise and very concerned about my family and friends. As fate would have it after I finished college, I didn’t go right into Psychology; I became a hairdresser for several years. Funny, I was still a therapist even then. After a failed marriage and two small girls to raise; I went to graduate school. I also returned to waiting tables (a trade that has assisted me since college) as I earned my Master’s degree and doctorate in Behavioral Psychology. Even then while waiting tables, I was still counseling and helping people. After receiving my doctorate in Psychology, I began working for several agencies and practices in the Atlanta metro area with several different Psychological Specializations. Then I realized my specialty would be in mood disorders and relational /couples work therapy. After five years of working for other private practices, I decided to go out on my own and opened Torre Prothro Wiley PhD LLC.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were many obstacles that I had to face. My first real challenge was my divorce and learning how to take care of my household alone all while working and finishing my education. It was a hard ten years ahead of me but I remembered my faith and my commitment to myself and my children. I often tell people my children are the reasons I’ve become who I am. My love for them and desire to give them the very best drove me to be the best woman/businesswoman for them to look up to and emulate.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My business became my third baby. It has been one of the most challenging but mostly rewarding adventure yet. I call it an adventure because it began as me being solely a Psychotherapist; however it has turned me into a businesswoman. Initially, I started out focusing on anxiety and depression. I have a talent and unique way I facilitate my treatment around anxiety and depression. My methodology used is CBT Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness practices. When I was introduced to mindfulness theory things changed for me as therapist. I feel in love with teaching my clients how to utilize mindfulness practices to effectively facilitate their mood swings and negative thinking. Combining CBT, Mindfulness Skills, and Nutritional Supplements has given me a very effective treatment plan for my clients.
In the past four years, I was invited to join together with my college girlfriend and financial advisor Sibyl Slade CRPC to venture into Financial Therapy (we assist individuals who struggle with their finances from a financial and psychological perspective). This relationship with Mrs. Slade and joining our specialties together gave me the push and desire to now be an entrepreneur! This is what I’m most proud of now! I’m now in a place to enhance my wealth and lifestyle and also pour knowledge and wisdom into others from various perspectives and situations. I am currently rebranding my brand into a more holistic /balanced approach. My goal is to assist women in crisis whether it be from a mental, relational, professional, or financial situation. Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I’ve learned to let go and go with the flow of life and not to resist it! Most people struggle with change, I used to be one of them. Now I’m learning to trust God and myself to ensure peace and clarity which provides me answers and solutions to any situation I face.
