Meet Trailblazer Angelique Ka’Mil Tate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelique Ka’Mil Tate.

Angelique Ka’Mil, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I made my way into real estate via multi-family housing property management. It seemed to be a natural progression. While I loved my co-workers, staff, and residents during my 18-year tenure in property management, I needed MORE. I quickly realized that REAL ESTATE was becoming my PASSION, so much so, that I decided to get my Broker’s License and take this passion to the next level.

My plan had been all along to open up my own boutique real estate firm and use all that I had learned (what to do and what NOT to do) in my own company. I have seen a lot of good, bad, and ugly in real estate. I wanted my firm to be a reflection of ME and what my expectations would be as a buyer or seller in a real estate transaction. I further wanted to fulfill that which was missing in my life. BALANCE.

GOD woke me up about 3 o’clock one morning with the name of my soon to be firm. I raced down the stairs to log onto the Secretary of State website to see if the name was available. IT WAS! It’s like it had just been sitting there, waiting for me! I submitted my request to reserve the name, and I hadn’t even taken the state exam yet. I WAS THAT SERIOUS! A few days shortly thereafter, I successfully passed the State Exam, I received notification that the name request from the Secretary of State was confirmed and reserved, and I was issued my Brokers License. LIVE WORK PLAY Real Estate Group, LLC. was born!

LIVE WORK PLAY Real Estate Group is my ode to my “WHY”… all things REAL ESTATE and… BALANCE!

This is testimony born of blood, sweat and a whole lotta’ tears! I often tell this story to those who ask, “HOW DID I?” and I end with this closing statement… “This is BY FAR, the hardest job I’ve ever had in my life, being an entrepreneur. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that people don’t see. Even still, it is BY FAR the most rewarding… and NOT for the reasons people may immediately think.”

I absolutely LOVE what I do. It is my passion. It is my “WHY.”

Has it been a smooth road?
NO WAY has this been a smooth road! It is most certainly a FAITH WALK… EVERY SINGLE DAY. When transitioning into FULL-TIME entrepreneurship, your drive, determination and most importantly, your FAITH, must be present. You have to understand that anything worth having is never easy. For me, I had to show GOD that I trusted his word when he kept whispering in my ear to leave my corporate job. I didn’t for a LONG TIME. I kept doing things my way until I could no longer deny what he was telling me to do.

I think back over the years of the how’s and the why’s of how everything turned out. It was all a test. When you are an entrepreneur, you have to understand that sacrifices will have to be made to get to the other side. It is not easy. There are long days and super long nights. 40 hours a week? WHAT? Try double and triple that! Try working those long hours with no real tangible benefit in sight. Its all you can do to not give up.

This is when your MINDSET has to be in the correct position. How bad do you REALLY want this? Do you want to GROW or do you want to STAY? The choice is yours. (This, a REAL conversation I had with myself. :-))

As I am licensed in the State of Georgia, I work ALL OVER! Buyers, Sellers, Investors, Entrepreneurs, Residential, Commercial, Land, Relocation, Short Sales, Off Market… you name it!

What I am most proud of as a brand is sticking to my guns when it comes to how a prospect, customer, or client is to be treated. I see far too many times agents that WILL NOT answer their phone, nor will they return a phone call. It troubles me greatly. I can’t help but wonder, how they can properly service their client if they are not answering calls related to their client’s property???

As such, I make it a point and instill the same into my agents, that we MUST communicate and follow up with our customers and clients so that they are properly informed every step of the way. I would want my agent to keep me in the loop, and know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that THIS AGENT truly has my back. It’s not only called GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE but CLIENT LEVEL SERVICE. I believe it’s how business should be done, no matter the industry! We have to take the stance of “INTEGRITY ALWAYS.”

I feel led to mentor to those who truly want to learn the business but also lead by example in all things.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
In general, I feel that women are not taken as seriously as we should be. Women are trendsetters! We are intelligent, dedicated, and forward thinkers. We are strong, passionate and capable. The world should know that we aren’t just a pretty face, and we are serious about our crafts.

I predict, that more and more women, will start to step out on faith and begin to open small businesses and EXPAND. And why wouldn’t we? It’s only the right thing to do!
