Meet Trailblazer Asha Bashir

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asha Bashir.

Asha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
May 2016, I walked across a stage and so proudly accepted my degree in Journalism from the #1 Journalism school in the entire country, the University of Missouri-Columbia. I was ecstatic and had a list of plans I was ready to begin checking off starting the very next day. However, as I began working and exerting my own plans over God’s plans for my life, I found myself getting involved in activities and opportunities I had no business in. I spent months at a job that left me drained and unfulfilled, I stayed in a relationship that was toxic and characterized by distrust, lust, pain, and pride, I was starting businesses out of God’s will and, in a nutshell, I was lost. I was confused and I was EXHAUSTED! I was exhausted from living a lie and living a life opposite of and detrimental to my calling.

After arriving at my wits’ end, I decided to take a real chance on Jesus. January 2017, I truly repented and prayed to God that He would remove everything in my life that did not bring Him glory and I prayed that He would reorder my steps, reveal my true identity in Him, and lead me back in the direction He designed me to go in. As I consistently pressed in, I was led back to my safe place. I was led back to the place where my creativity reigned and where I felt the freest. I was led to write again. I began collecting journals and writing out my prayers, revelations, visions, and all additional notes God deposited in my spirit for me to put on paper.

Weeks of writing turned into months of writing and as I became more intentional about discovering my purpose and gift, a new fire was birthed in me that screamed, “This is it!” It was mind-boggling to me that God would call me to minister with my words when just a year ago, I would sprint from the thought of even writing because never in a million years had I imagined that my gift was worthy enough to be profitable and impactful. But, here I am. I am a writer! I am a speaker! I am a voice for our generation! God has chosen me to use my words to heal, encourage, motivate, and uplift as it relates to faith. This also has led to the birth of my organization, ‘A Message to God, for God’, where once a month, men and women get together to fellowship, pray, release and experience a more intimate encounter with God through writing!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, but by the grace of God, it has all been worth it! Every “no”, every closed door, every late night, every early morning, every sacrifice, has been worth it!

I think the most difficult struggle I’ve experienced along the way though, is the attacks on my mind. The enemy would constantly try to feed me negative thoughts and get me to believe lies concerning my purpose and the calling over my life. He would try to tell me things that resulted in fear, anxiety, stress, fatigue, and so much more. But as a Christian, we have to be aware of the schemes of the enemy. He wants us to suffer and live in fear to keep us from reaching the place God has called us to.

To any young woman experiencing this same thing, we have to be ready and willing to fight back against these attacks! The word of God tells us in Ephesians 6:13-17 that we must take up the whole armor of God so that we may be able to withstand evil. The armor of God and the way to combat these attacks is with truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and God’s word.

We must adhere to this! We must be ready to fight back! Why? Your life depends on it. Your purpose depends on it! There are others who God has assigned to you that are waiting to be delivered and healed and set FREE by your obedience!

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a writer, speaker, and the Founder of an organization titled ‘A Message to God, for God.’ I focus on creating spaces for both women and men allowing them opportunity to experience more intimate encounters with God through writing.

I am most proud of taking a chance on myself. I am most proud of believing in my gift and being committed to spending the rest of my life operating in my gift. I am most proud of creating a life where I can serve others and leave a positive impact on their lives. I am most proud of not conforming to society’s norms and staying true to ME and who God has called me to be. This, I believe, sets me apart from most! Why? We live in a self-absorbed and self-entitled society where many are more concerned with their own interests, their own needs, their own fame, and their own recognition, rather than being concerned with living a life that mirrors Christ. As Christians, we are already a set apart group. We are called to live a life completely opposite of what the world desires and what the world does. We are called to be selfless and live selfless lives, putting the needs of others before our own. As a result of this, God exceeds our expectations! I have been blessed to travel to places such as Los Angeles, CA and Columbia, MO to host my event and share my gift with many others. I’m thrilled to see what all else God has in store!

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Yes. These resources include the Bible, Godly community/small groups, WomanEvolveTV (includes podcasts, sermons, health challenges, etc.), and also, YouTube! I am a YouTube junkie, lol. I get many tips from YouTube about writing, publishing books, successfully running a brand, etc.
