Meet Tricia Custenborder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Custenborder.

Tricia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey began with the birth of my twins in 2017 when I became really sick. Not only was I physically ill, but I also experienced extreme postpartum anxiety and depression. I felt like my body was shutting down when my children needed me most. I tried everything from therapy to prescriptions.

In my efforts to regain my health, I stumbled upon energy healing, and I was immediately hooked. It was truly a journey into the world of holistic healing, spirituality, and energy. It changed me, and it changed my life. In many ways, it saved my life. I came out so much stronger and centered then ever before.

As I continued to study and work on myself, I felt called to help other people heal as well. In 2018 I officially opened my first business, Serenity Healing House, in downtown Jefferson. I taught Reiki classes and provided energy healing sessions. After about a year, I transitioned to working fully online and expanded my services to also include life coaching. Eventually, I realized that almost all of my clients were also business owners, which I loved. Today I work exclusively with female entrepreneurs, integrating energetic principles with business. Aside from motherhood, it’s the most fulfilling thing that I’ve ever done.

Has it been a smooth road?
When I first started my business, I was a stay-at-home mom. My oldest child was 3, and my twins were only a year old. My husband worked a full-time corporate job, so finding the time (and energy) to build a business was difficult. We made it work, but it definitely would’ve made an entertaining sitcom. It was chaotic and perfectly imperfect. But I had a vision, and I wanted to show my kids that anything is possible.

Truthfully, there have been a lot of ups & downs. Entrepreneurship can definitely bring up a lot of internal doubts and fears. Especially in the beginning, when you have startup costs and inconsistent income. One of the biggest things I had to work through was comparing myself to other people in my industry. I had to constantly remind myself that everyone starts at the beginning and that there’s room for all of us to be successful. I decided that it didn’t matter if it took me one year or ten years to reach my goals, I would keep going no matter what.

On the practical side, I didn’t know a lot about marketing and business in the beginning. This is something that I had to learn along the way by hiring mentors and taking courses. I made a lot of mistakes and invested in things that didn’t work out. It was a learning experience for sure. I felt this pressure to do things the “right way”, so I was following the guidance of mentors even when it didn’t feel right. I really had to allow myself to do things differently and structure my operations in a way that worked for me, even if it didn’t make sense. It sounds silly now, but at the time it really was hard to ignore what was working for so many other people. That’s why I’m so passionate about the work that I do now because I know how it feels to be working so hard with minimal results. It’s just not necessary to go through that. The good news is that I learned it the hard way, so my clients don’t have to.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I run an online business teaching female entrepreneurs how to maximize their energy so they can get more done and create more impact & income, without being overwhelmed. Each person has a unique energetic blueprint (aka their Human Design) that details certain things about you: WHO you are, your innate strengths & gifts, areas of vulnerability, how to tap into your internal guidance, how you learn, why you’re here, and so much more. It shows you how you operate energetically as an individual. It’s the users manual to YOU – the guide book that all parents wish their children were born with.

This can help you understand yourself (and the people around you) in an entirely new way. Through courses, classes & 1:1 coaching I help my clients build (or re-structure) their offers and marketing strategies based on their Human Design. This results in greater vitality, efficiency, productivity, and client attraction while preventing burnout. It’s truly a way of working (and a way of life) that helps you reach your goals with less resistance along the way. With this higher level of self-awareness, you’ll have to confront the behaviors and beliefs that have previously kept you from meeting your full potential. I believe that your business grows as you grow as a person. That’s really what it’s about- being our best so we can help more people.

It has been such a blessing to see the transformation this work has had on my clients. These women have hearts of gold, and they often put themselves & their work last because of it. So to see them succeed, and to fully step into their purpose with clarity, drive, & confidence is so rewarding! I can’t imagine doing anything else.

If you had told me five years ago that I would be doing this kind of work, I wouldn’t have believed it. The fact that I get to work with women all over the world is so surreal to me. I’m so grateful for every single opportunity, and I can’t wait to see what the next five years will hold.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes! Before transitioning fully online, I found several opportunities locally to network with like-minded people. My in-person clients often found me through Google, so I was always confident that I was in a good location.
