Meet Victoria Jones of Divine Inspirations Hair Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Jones.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Victoria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been doing hair since I was three years old. Lol! No really, my barbies had micro braids and asymmetrical hair cuts haha! Instead of playing doctor as a child, I vividly remember playing hair salon. I would get my daddy’s old business phone, make an appointment book from computer paper, and line my dolls up like they were waiting for the next best style. My grandmother was a cosmetologist before changing careers, but she hated it and tried to convince me not to do it. Clearly, it didn’t work.

In high school, I took cosmetology classes as an elective. After graduating, I attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville to obtain my bachelor’s in business management, and I also enrolled at Scientific Beauty Academy to finish the remainder of my cosmetology hours. I finished the two-year cosmetology program in nine months. I was already working in a salon and continued there for six years until I opened Divine Inspirations in March 2014.

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? Not even a little bit. One obstacle was that my parents didn’t think being a hairstylist was a “real” career choice. It took my daddy almost six months to understand my plan and agree to pay for cosmetology school. I also remember getting denied for the first business loan I applied for. That crushed me because I knew I had what it took to make it. Those are just two of the many obstacles I faced.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Divine Inspirations Hair Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
How long do we have to discuss this!? Divine Inspirations Hair Salon is a Christian salon with a relaxing atmosphere. My goal is and always will be for my guests to feel comfortable with who they are and fall more in love with themselves when they look in the mirror. I am a full-service salon specializing in wig units, hair color, cuts, natural hair and silk presses. I am most proud of my professionalism while remaining true to my faith. I am honored to be able to have a platform to spread the love of Jesus and do what I love. What sets me apart is the honesty and knowledge I provide my guests. They always know I will tell them the truth in love.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The beauty industry is forever changing yet repeating at the same time! I see a lot more people coming back to the professional. I also see people who have a true love and desire for the industry coming to the forefront.
