Rising Stars: Meet Charla Ruschelle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charla Ruschelle.

Hi Charla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Concoction theWork_Shop has been up and running for seven years now, located in the Old 4th Ward. My shop provides my own clothing brand, CR Clothing Co./Charla Ruschelle, a womenswear brand, as well as offers services in minor alterations, wardrobe consulting, internship opportunities, and host local creatives within the field of art, fashion and design.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurial-ship is never a smooth road. There are always highs and lows. I do my best to ensure I’m balancing my time and workflow, so if a challenge arises I’m able to figure out a solution in how it may be handled.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a fashion designer and shop owner. I’ve been sewing for over 30 years and have had my shop for seven years. I’m not your average boutique shop. I am a fashion designer’s shop, where I clothe, create and consult! Think of me as your one-stop shop for all things fashionably fly at your service. I’ve been able to stay up and running through the pandemic because of my sewing skills and being a forward thinker when it comes to the needs of my clients and customers, new and old. I’m currently working on a startup for creative professionals! And look forward to getting that up and running as well. I’m always in creative mode in having the passion to be of service for my fashion and creative communities! Next up on November 26th, 2021, my business partner and I of “The Fashionistas Collective”, will be hosting our event for women of color, creative businesses to sell products and merchandise, as it provides a platform for exposing their businesses products locally to patronize, support and invest.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
All love and thanks to my clientele, new and old, that invest in my brand, my vision and business ventures.
