Rising Stars: Meet Chris “CQ” Quinones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris “CQ” Quinones.

Hi Chris “CQ”, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I initially got introduced to the barber industry around the age of 12. My mom was a cosmetology student and used to come home and practice on me and my brother. I began using her tools to cut my own hair as well as my brother’s and cousins and when I messed up I’d cut it bald; wait for it to grow back and try again. Eventuality I began to get IT. I’d sit in barbershops and watch barbers work and how they moved and cut, trying to pick up on skills. I began to get good at cutting and started getting clientele cutting for $5-$10 a cut lol. Fast forward to 2014. After doing an 8-year bid in Prison, I decided to get serious about Barbering and enrolled in Barber School. I graduated from barber school and then went back to become a Barber Instructor/Educator. I started attending Hair shows and fell in love with the Competitions that were held. In 2016, I won my first Barber Battle at one of the Worlds Largest Hairshows. Since then I’ve won 25 more barber Competitions all over the U.S. I opened my barber Shop / Salon: UNTOUCHABLE HAIR STUDIO IN September 2016 and continue to cut and run day-to-day operations while opening a second business in 2020 which has begun to flourish as well. My product line “Royalistic” has been set to be released this Summer and I plan on opening several more locations around the Atlanta area in the next couple of years… I make myself available to do set work, weddings, institutions, etc. I travel to service my “celebrity clientele “My clientele consists of Rappers/ Singers/Producers/ Actors Professional Athletes and of course my other clients who have been with me for years. I like to think of all of my clients as CELEBRITIES because I make them look and feel their best and have them feel themselves after my services. Follow me on my journey as I strive to take this barber game to the next level. Social media @cqthebarber.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I battled between being in the streets getting fast money to survive and help take care of my siblings and family and working a regular job. I found out earlier on in life that I was made to be more and do more. I simple 9 to 5 wasn’t going to cut it for me. I had an entrepreneurial spirit in me that was dying to flourish I just chose to do things the wrong way earlier on in life and it cost me eight years in prison. Now Life’s good I’m part of several mentorship programs and my mission is to help keep our youth and young men out of prisons and to find their purpose in life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Master Barber / Educator/ Mentor / Hair Artist 26x Barber Champ.

I specialize in Freestyle Hair Designs and being able to execute any cut on any texture of hair. The fact that I can service people of any ethnicity and make them look good is one thing that sets me apart from others in my profession.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
