Rising Stars: Meet Dane Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dane Brown.

Hi Dane, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my journey in art over 13 years ago when I decided that I didn’t want to work a 9-5 for the rest of my life. I went to school for animation but realized I didn’t want to go the path of working for an animation company and decided long ago to take the independent route. Picking up different artistic mediums along the way, I hit the artshow market in ATL, and I stayed growing from there.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been smooth, but it’s definitely not easy. I’m quiet in general so it took a lot for me to start selling myself and my artwork to people. Eventually, I learned and got better at it. That skill transferred when myself and two other artists starting to throw our own shows. Dealing with artists and vendors help when you can relate to their experience and teach you how to be better with your own brand.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I notice different people like my work depending on what their introduced to first. So some like me for animation, others for painting and drawing. I make my own t-shirts as well, which also resonates with people. I’ve started to experiment with body painting as well and getting back into sculpting.

I think I’m most proud of my painting because it use to intimidate me for a long time. Once I was able to see myself grow with that, I became more fearless creatively. I think the fact that I can jump around in so many different mediums without breaking stride is what pushes me to people’s focus.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Adaptation and perseverance is key. You can’t really grow unless you adapt to any situation and push through.
